    Ignition switch

Have a problem, I think it is my ignition switch. Trying to start, just get a faint click and after a few attempts she'll crank and fire up. First thought is the starter solenoid or starter motor but, if I move the key very carefully, I can often catch it at one exact point where the starter...

    12v or 24v

You could connect it up to the vehicle and run it up but you will need a battery on the output. Alternators don't like running without load. If its a 24v alternator it might do something very nasty to a 12v battery but if its a 24v then the exciter wire from your presumably 12v vehicle may not...

TD5 not pulling as should and doing poor mpg??

Mines a manual TD5 and I am getting ~26mpg after injector cleaner, MAF sensor cleaned and getting the tyre pressures right. I personally think the tyre pressures had the most effect as I was getting 22.5mpg on the previous tank. As already mentioned, driving style probably has more effect than...

Discovery 2 v8 Problems with electrics, alarm and not starting.

I did have alarm problems. Randomly going off. The fob wouldn't unlock the doors but I could usually unlock the drivers door with the key. The alarm would then go off but could be unset with the fob. Attemting to set the alarm with the fob would usually give one beep as though one of the doors...

Discovery 2 v8 Problems with electrics, alarm and not starting.

I had most of these problems and some others such as the engine not turning off when you remove the key and the car deciding to lock all the doors with me in it. The passenger fuse box was the culprit. Took the back off and there was a lot of water damage on the circuit board. I believe the...

what about one of these ?

Had one of those for years. Useful little tool but I think 2 tons is a bit optimistic. I've used it as an engine hoist and while it works OK I never felt like I'd get underneath it just in case. Bear in mind, the whole thing is about 18" long and one stroke moves the hook about 1". You can lower...

    Stuck in Superlock mode !!

I had all these problems and more. Take the under dash fuse box out. Turn it over and take the back off (you have to ease it over all the tags with a small screwdriver). You will probably find the circuit board tracks are all corroded. Problem seems to be intermittent as it dries out and sorts...

    Disco 2 died

If by the monster from the black lagoon, you mean something akin to slimy black snot then it sounds like diesel bug. You'll need to treat it and don't be surprised if you get through a few filters in the process.

    Body Control Module.

Yes, they are flashing but they weren't when the replacement BCU was fitted. Only started flashing once all the electrical problems started up again, before I replaced the fuse box.

Disco 3 - how much better?

I think the problem could be in shifting from the later D2 with all the various issues more or less sorted to an early D3 where they haven't. Personally I would upgrade to the latest, lowest mileage D2 with a really good service history. Always found my D2's handling to be really good...

    Body Control Module.

I thought it wouldn't be that easy. I might try and re-fit the old one and see what happens. Thanks for the opinions. I'll let you know what happens. Might be of interest to someone.

    Body Control Module.

Because there was nothing wrong with it and the new one is showing an extra 80000 miles. Don't know if that can be re-programmed but if its possible it would be easier to just re-fit the old unit.

    Body Control Module.

While back I had a whole collection of electrical problems which I diagnosed as a faulty Body control Module. Got a replacement off ebay. Got it programmed in by local specialist. Fine for a while but then all the problems started to come back. Finally traced the real fault as water in the back...

    MPG Meter for non-OBD Landys

Then again, you could find a fuel flow meter somewhere on the web. Easy on a petrol, more complicated on a diesel as it has to work out the return as well and subtract. they do exist though.

oh come on - not turning off !

Theres a lot of them around at the moment. Water in the dashboard fuse box again. take the back off the fuse box and have a look. There must be 3 or 4 threads about this on Disco 2's in the last couple of weeks.

    HELP- TD5 Ignition fault

Snap. Replaced the BCU on mine before I got to the fuse box.

    Homemade Auxiliary Fuel Tank

If you want a portable fuel tank that why not try one for an outboard motor. Don't know how you would mount it safely but they come with a variety of self sealing couplings. Usually available up to 30 litres.

    HELP- TD5 Ignition fault

Take the interior fuse box out, lever the back, plastic cover off and see if the circuit board has signs of water damage. You'd be amazed at all the weird problems it causes and there seem to be an awful lot of these problems about at the moment (wet weather). I speak from experience. If not...

    Clutch juddering

Other option is the dual mass flywheel is on its way out. Mine does the same thing but it hasn't got worse and I've got used to it.

Alarm going off and dash lights on

Same problem with mine. Water damage in the circuit board in the back of the fuse box under the dashboard.
