    Rebuild crank engine

Hello, I cranked my engine after a rebuild to see if the oil would prime. The fuel is not hooked up yet so it's not going to fire. But I cranked it for about 4-5 seconds and the oil light didn't go out. Did I crank it long enough? I packed the oil pump with petrolium jelly while I had it open...

Rebuild - help tie up loose ends (pics)

Just a few more... Here are 3 hoses, and I don't know where they go. I bet one goes here, where I'm pointing. I bet another one is a fuel line to connect to that tube thing that feeds the injectors. Don't know what the third one is. And I don't know which is which. Edit: This wire goes...

Rebuild - help tie up loose ends (pics)

Brilliant help, thanks guys. I got the electrical wires all hooked up. Couldn't get them backwards on the coil because they were two different connectors Still not sure about the two pipes though. Edit: I figured out what you were saying about the metal pipe. Can see where that one goes now...

Rebuild - help tie up loose ends (pics)

Hiya, I'm almost done with the engine rebuild, and I'm kind of stuck. I have a few things I don't know where they go. Unfortunately I didn't see this engine together in one piece before I rebuilt it. So perhaps you all could help point me in the right direction here... What is this little T...

    Injector wires

I found a place nearby who fixes old land rovers. Who'd have thought, in Arkansas of all places. He's an English dude, too. I went and looked at one of theirs, so I figured it out. Thanks, Roger

    Injector wires

I can find plenty of info about how to route the plug leads, but I can't find anywhere where it shows how to run the wiring harness for the injectors and whatever else it plugs into. Anyone have a diagram or picture? Thanks, Roger

    daft intake question

Aha! I wondered where the T-stat went. That's it inside the air inducting manifold device. Funny, I ended up with two new t-stat gaskets and I wondered where they went. Thanks for the help, and please be prepared for some more exposing of my ignorance. Thanks, Roger

    daft intake question

In other words, does it go on like the first pic, or the 2nd?

    daft intake question

http://g5i.net/pictures/intake.jpg Looking at the top of the engine, it looks like there are eight intake holes, one per cylinder, and 4 coolant holes. Looking at the bottom of the manifold (in the picture) there are eight intake holes and only 2 coolant holes. You've got two coolant holes at...

    daft intake question

Looks like the intake manifold is designed to block two of the water ways in the engine. What's that about? And which way around does it go, am I supposed to fit it so that it blocks the rear water ways (furthest from the front of the vehicle - I didn't take this apart). Cheers, Roger...

Anyone know what torque these bolts need to be? Can't find it in the RAVE CD. Cheers, Roger

    Front oil seal stuck

I've got the timing cover off, and the oil pump out. I'm trying to replace the oil seal, but I can't get the old one out. Is there any trick to this? I've already destroyed the old one trying to force it out with a screwdriver, but it's just mega stuck in there. Thanks, Roge

Have I got the right idea with the timing marks on this?

    rebuild problem

Well since there were no more takers to this thread and I couldn't find out what it was for, I told them to just cut it off. My guess is that the lug was used in the factory for grabbing ahold of the engine block during assembly. Thanks for your input Listerdiesel. I'll post back here if it...

    rebuild problem

I finally made it to the machine shop today to have a look at it, and that is exactly the lug I was talking about. It doesn't appear to be threaded. Did you manage to check if anything bolts to it? Or can anyone else confirm? If it's not for anything I'll just have him grind it off. He said...

    rebuild problem

When I bought my Discovery, it was already somewhat in pieces. So I was unable to answer the question that the machine shop man just asked me. He has skimmed the heads, he said they were very warped. He has re-bored and honed the cylinders. But he said the block was warped, also. He was going...
