Fook me i wudnt expect any 4x4 to tow that at more than 50mph, its huge! 3.5 tons is on the limit remember too, so wudnt put any pressure on the engine by adding after market parts that arent designed to worrk 100% with the engine standard. Go for a 300 TDI definately, got one in my defender...

Well - these are what i think are wrong, broken gear linkage. Possibly needs a replacement a frame ball joint due to clunking when applying accelerator or depressing accelerator and now juddering when accelerating. Oli.

I read somewhere that if its a twin axle breaked trailer you can tow up to 4 tonnes, thats not including the weight of the vehicle!! thats legally on road, but if the law doesnt matter to you, you can tow anything with a defender!!

its never gonna be great because at the end of the day it is a defender! but thats not why we drive them! I wouldnt drive anything else, and its not actually as uncomfortable as u think on long trips, even if like me you are over 6ft!

the main problem is a knocking from the rear when i drive, like a thump thump thump, worse on rougher roads. There is a clunk on acceleration and decceleration when the foot goes on or off the pedal and also i beleive the gear linkage has broken. i would appreciate ANY help you could give me...

i dont know how else to describe it, when i drive there is a thump thump thump from the rear underside, louder when on an unsmooth road like something is being shaken, the shocks have recently been done though, hope thats a little better!

thanks 4 ur quick response i will grease them as soon as i get home from uni next week and i will have a look at that linkage! ur right a defender will pull anything, even drive thru 2 foot of mud in high range, not bad! regards.
