    Horrible Clattering noise while accelerating

Without more info it is too hard to guess what the problem is. Could be the big ends or main bearings have given up and your engine is about to fall to pieces, could be the catalytic converter has failed and internally broken and rattling about (may also cause the black smoke due to partial...

    More key woes...

I was under the impression that if the car is superlocked then unlocked with either key 1 or 2, the seat and mirror would move to the stored positions for mem 1 and mem 2 respectivly, and this cannot be changed, so key 1 will only activate mem 1 and key 2 mem 2? Right, wrong? Am I talking...

    More key woes...

Any idea how to identify the number of the key if the stickers have come off? I presume I have key 1 and 2, but have no way of actually knowing. I guess I could program the seat memory say fully forward for mem 1, middle position for mem 2, set the seat fully back, super lock the car then...

    Freelander TD4 Lack Of Power

It was 2 years ago I had this issue, and I can't remember now exactly where it is, looking through my posts I had previously removed the inlet manifold so it was easy to change the MAP sensor. Sorry, can't help more.

    Freelander TD4 Lack Of Power

Sorry, I think I have got MAF and MAP muddled up. My findings on the MAP sensor was that mine was bunged up with a tar like substance which seems to coat the inside of the inlet manifold, most probably semi unburnt exhaust products coming through the EGR valve assembly. Although I didn't...

    Freelander TD4 Lack Of Power

The MAP sensor and the boost pressure sensor are both fairly easy to change, order the required sensor and once it's in your hands you'll see how it fits. The engine cover has to come off first, the MAP sensor is located at the top left of the engine as you're looking at it, in the air intake...

    Gear stick placement.

Yes and no. Yes it'll weaken it, no you won't be able to bend it by hand once cooled. It won't go like a stick of toffie afterwards. And if you manage to bend it cold, then you've fooked up your selectors by then!

    Air Conditioning Question

See, some faults on a P38 ARE easy to fix - you'd have thought that a P38 not blowing cold air couldn't be as simple as putting a new drive belt on! Blend motors, dash out jobs, holed rads, failed compressor clutches, trinary switches etc out all immediately spring to mind first!!!

    immobiliser fault?

Yes, just go to your local LR main dealer and ask for it, it's on all the LR main dealers computer systems, and they should not charge for the info, nor fob you off saying they haven't got it. You may need to provide ownership proof and provide ID, so bring along the V5 and your driving licence.

    P38 Inlet Manifolds

These rumours about new MOT regulations are just that at the moment. It has been suggested that a check will be made that the engine has not been modified, but no suggestion as to how far an inspector will have to go, indeed many modern engines have covers, will the inspector have to remove...

If it's running every time you apply the brakes then the accumulator is knackered.

    Dash LEDs

I stand corrected! What switches did I have to take apart? Perhaps it was on a TD5 Disco, or was that a MK4 Golf........old age, memory loss.........

    Dash LEDs

They're filament bulbs AFAIK and integral with the switches, you can't replace them unless you're very handy with tiny screwdrivers and soldering irons. You have to dismantle the switches, which of course aren't designed to be taken apart. Or buy new switches from main stealer.

    P38 battery drain !!!

Perhaps in the UK there is just no demand anymore? There's no law about acids, they're not controlled substances. I even tried a few chemists. By their name, you'd have though they'd sell chemicals. I did say that to the pharmacists, but non wanted to help. One did show me his trade...

Did your old ones look worn before removal? What made you want to replace them, just out of curiosity?

    replacing starter motor

Then you need some better tools, or a bigger hammer! :5bsmash: Mind you, it did take me 10 hours to remove the top 2 bell housing bolts on a P38 once........

    P38 battery drain !!!

I spilt some battery acid a while ago (a battery fell over and was on it's side for a few mins). Cleaned up and needed to top up said battery with acid. Where to get some? Nowhere was the answer. You can't obtain it anywhere now. I ended up going to my local Halfords after hours with a...

    Quick EAS question

Normal behaviour. My front driveway is also at a slope, I usually park on it overnight and most mornings the Rangie has settled to the bumpstops. If I park in the road which is pretty level it will stay up for days. (Well, never left it unmoved for more than 2 actually). It'll rise up to...

    Is it normal

Yeah, they do that. Sometimes sitting at traffic lights or a junction, they quite often suddenly think they're as much as 2 inches too low and rise up, then go down again etc. Gets funny looks from the driver behind! Essentially the EAS is attempting to keep the car level at all times, and...
