I sealed my Alpine-light rubbers to the body as this is where my leak down the E post was coming from. Perhaps try this first as it is quick, cheap & easy. I used a mastic type of stuff not a silicon.

Sorry to doubt your observations but are you SURE the smoke was from the alternator and not just being sucked past it? The A/C being switched on might be a red herring or it might have caused the A/C unit to seize and the belt to heat up/burn. I reckon you are going to have to fire her up...

Haynes manual will give you some clues where the sensors are - Front & Rear. Don't forget the relay. And don't trap your head between the tyre & the wheel arch - I know NO-ONE would but, you know, be careful & good luck.

My other two tyres are like new, though, and I am as tight as our-souls. Rolling radius should be almost like for like as both sizes are standard fit I believe - no change to the speedo.
