Changed the oil in them both today. The oil that came out looked like treacle, and there was some thick gooey stuff stuck the the drain plugs. No leaks as yet, so the PTFE looks like it's doing the job.

I torqued them up last time, when i needed the loctite. I don't want to over tighten them, hence the question. I'll do one and give it a whirl.

The threads seem fine. Without the loctite 220 on them last time they wept a little. Just wondering if PTFE tape would do the trick.

I've taken the shear bolts out already and removed the barrel assembly. They're M8 x 12 if anyone needs to know. The lock barrel itself seems to be retained by a small pin, but I can't fathom a way to remove that pin and withdraw the barrel. I'm going to clean what I can and put it back...

My ignition switch on my TD5 has stuck again :( I've whipped the ignition/steering lock off and would like to remove the lock barrel and give it a clean. It seems that the barrel is held in by a brass pin. Can this pin be removed without damage? If so how? TIA Stephen

Just to add to the thread. I've just had a quote from Lancaster for my 2002MY TD5 manual, no modifications. No off roading cover. 13 years NCD. I'm over 40 and have no convictions on my licence. £705 :confused:

I can't say i've noticed it happening when i'm moving, but will keep an eye on it.

Update: Flushed the brake fluid today the brakes are more positive, but still have the same 'feature' albeit a little slower. I did come across this though Brake Parts for Cars I also spotted that the bloody r380 filler plug is weeping. That's tomorrows job I suppose. BTW what's with the...

At the moment i'm leaning toward replacing the fluid and seeing if that makes things better or worse. It's a cheap option and no big deal if it doesn't make any difference. If new fluid doesn't make a difference it'll probably be a replacement cylinder and/or vacuum servo I guess. Galen

If the booster was leaking i'd expect the vacuum assist to fade and resistance to return? I've never had a unit fail so i've no idea what the result would be.:o Galen

That's pretty much it. It takes around 7 seconds to drop to the floor. Once it's done that if you pump it twice it's rock solid again for another 7 seconds. I'd expect the vacuum assist to drag the pedal down upon starting the engine, but i'd also expect it to stop at some point and hold; not...
