Folks,

I've been reading stuff on the net regarding 300tdi and R380 conversions for 110 defenders, and they all mention that if using the engine and gearbox from a discovery 1 the gear levers end up being further back than usual.

What's the difference between the 300TDI & R380 in a disco 1 and that in a 300TDI defender?

it mounts to the engine fine, (as long as its a 300tdi) and will mount to the chassis fine too.

Look at a disco - the xfer lever is in front of the main lever. Look at a defender, the main lever is in front. The main gear stick comes up on a disco box, when put in a defender, just about where that channel is that forms the front edge of the seatbox, so theres a nice amount of cutting for you to do!

it is possible to change the linkages on the top, but no-one seems to know how, and from what i have gathered, its a gearbox open job anyway. Jus get a 'fender one and be done :)

Hope this is helpful!

I've acquired a 300tdi disco 1 as a donor and was hoping to use the R380 along with its engine on to a galavanised chassis.

It all needs another coat of looking at it seems.

Thanks for the info gents
