Head skimming advice and cost please.

As I'm now going insane due to lots of pressure in my cooling system (see previous post), any advice would be greatfully received. I'm going to remove the head on my 1998 300TDi to change the head gasket. What sort of price should I pay for a skim and pressure test on the head? Do I have to...

OK, I admit it, I am a clueless woman, 300TDI MOT Failure help please?

When It won't re start: have you tried getting out, locking it with the keyfob (arms alarm) unlock with the keyfob (disarms alarm and immobiliser), then start as normal. This works everytime with my N reg.

help ! electrical gremlins have attacked

Also check as many earth connections as you can find. If the interior light has a dim glow when other stuff is on, it could be a bad / corroded earth.

    Lost keys/fob discovery 1

Could you buy a alarm ecu and matching fobs from a breaker as a set or have a look on the MG-Rover.org forums. Some guys on there are auto sparks and have the gear to sort key fob programming etc. Hope this helps.

    High pressure in cooling system

Thanks Pastmaster. I'm out of touch with prices for testing and skimming and not sure of the amount of stripping needed. Looking at fleebay, I've seen a scondhand head, pressure tested and skimmed at £150 or new head at £275 exchange. The second hand one seems a good bet to me for a speedy...

    High pressure in cooling system

The heater gets hot then goes cold. The exhaust seems fine. The pressure test sounds a good idea. The new coolant is getting darker, I think there may be tiny soot particles in it  or i'm getting paranoid! Thanks for the suggestions.

    High pressure in cooling system

Thanks Dent. I just want to be certain I've tried everything before I remove the head (never done a OHV before!). I think the coolant was just very rusty water, couldn't see any coppery bits like K seal. When I cleaned the header tank the stuff that came out was almost orange. I may go "all...

    High pressure in cooling system

Thanks for the reply. I've bled it about 5 times over the weekend trying different methods but still get the high pressure (hard hoses). The cap appears to be quite new, but I have another I can try. Wouldn't a faulty cap cause no pressure rather than high pressure?

    starter problems

If you can take the starter off and get it to Sheffield there's a firm called Chapmans near Shalesmore that will check it and replace the necessary bits. They are quick and very resonably priced. Nothing fancy, just the bits that are needed. I've used them for many years and they're great, much...

    High pressure in cooling system

Hi all, I haven't posted on here for ages as my old disco has been really well behaved. However I now have a 1998 300 TDI thats being a pig! The coolant was like drinking chocolate so I've flushed out the system and added antifreeze and water 50/50. The thermostat had no centre in it, so I've...

    Battery warning light

I don't know much about Landys (yet!), but had a similar problem on a Vauxhall some time ago. The rectifier in the alternator had packed up. This resulted in the alternator drining the battery. The rear of the alternator was warm when the engine was cold - is yours? You could disconnect the...

    Disco front propshaft

Thanks for the advice:) . This is my first Landy, so it's all a bit strange:confused: It was fitted the wrong way round. I've ordered two UJ's (£15 inc p&p), so I should be able to sort it! I think mine is the 'single piece' prop. Thanks again for the help - should be sorted over the...

    Disco front propshaft

Hi everyone, I need some advice about my front prop on my disco 300 Tdi N reg 1995. One of the UJ's has had it, so I've ordered the bits and removed the prop. The Haynes manual says that the sliding end of the prop goes to the transfer box, but mine was fitted with the sliding end to the front...

    Hi There!

Hi Everyone, Just popped in to say hello. I got my first ever landy (disco) about month ago. I've been looking at different sites for discos & landys and this one seems to have the highest number of mad people. I think I can hide here quietly for most of the time without being spotted.
