Hi everyone,
I need some advice about my front prop on my disco 300 Tdi N reg 1995.
One of the UJ's has had it, so I've ordered the bits and removed the prop.

The Haynes manual says that the sliding end of the prop goes to the transfer box, but mine was fitted with the sliding end to the front axle.
Which is correct please.
Also the book mentions a gaiter but mine hasn't got one. Was this fitted to all models?

All help greatfully received!

Thanks
Paul.

You probably have a single piece prop which dosent have a gaitor, just that tiny bit of rubber thingy by where the splined end 'plugs' in.

You can still remove the splined end etc so its not really a single piece buit thats what LR call them. The shorter splined piece should be at your transfer case, if it wasent then the last guy just fitted it the wrong way round.

You probably have the same kind that were fitted on 200tdi's. Have a look at the pictures here: Maintenance - greasing

The one I have (98 model) has a gaitor like this: http://www.roverparts.com/product/img/Icn/tve100000.jpg
and the V8s have one like this: http://www.roverparts.com/product/img/Icn/276483.JPG

The reason the prop was fitted the other way around could be a poor way to get rid of some nasty vibrations/noise from one/both of the UJ's instead of replacing them. My advice would be to replace both of the UJ's, they are cheap and since you already have the prop on the bench ....

Thanks for the advice:) . This is my first Landy, so it's all a bit strange:confused:
It was fitted the wrong way round.
I've ordered two UJ's (£15 inc p&p), so I should be able to sort it!
I think mine is the 'single piece' prop.
Thanks again for the help - should be sorted over the weekend:cool:
