There's a load of overheated P38's (usually with "suspected head gasket" in the ad!) for sale at the moment and they're only worth breaking for spares with what they go for now :( If its not slipped a liner I'd fix it...

I just remember reading that the chassis rails have to to be sort of spread apart slightly to let the crossmember out so you can get to the sump. Or something. Obviously not, cheers!

Is changing the autobox fluid the same as on the classic rangie in that you have to bend the frame? I know you have to remove the crossmember first. Just wondering if I should leave it for a garage '93 V8 with the usual ZF Cheers

I imported a 4.6 HSE range rover from japan a few years back. Battery died and a few seals perished on the journey back so had to change an ABS pump and a few other odds n ends. BUT... it was a bleedin' fantastic car, honestly like it had just rolled out of the factory, you could have eaten...

P38's not proper!?!?! :mad: No only are they content leaking gallons of oil onto the road but coolant into the footwells and freon into the passenger seats as well. They even manage to leak air into air! They're more proper than a proper land rover. ;):D

Its really a 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 problem. As I understand it, when they bored the 3.5 for the larger sizes the gap between liner and water became very small- and cracks easily when overheated. Poor casting made it worse. This happened to my 4.0 P38, which is why I deliberately looked for a 3.5...

Slipped liner on a 3.5 is very very rare. I've never actually heard of one. The liners should be totally flush with the deck face, otherwise its slipped Only really a 94mm problem though, you have the best RV8!

But defenders are cool. I love my disco but every time I see a 110 I think "oooh should have got one of those" :rolleyes: If its a good landy I'd keep it.
