    Springs

Morning all. Am in a state of shock - had new springs fitted to the landrover less than 1,000 miles ago and it now appears that they are shagged - to such an extent that chap in workshop won't let me drive it away. Landrover was crabbing the last couple of weeks, so asked one of the...

    Juddering when setting off

Had this happen when i got my landrover. Turns out it was the rear crank oil seal as mentioned above - it was getting oil all over the place, but mainly on the clutch plate. Every time i went to pull away it felt like the vehicle was going to shake itself to pieces - literally!!! Once it...

    Overfilled Overdrive

Afternoon All! Just been to top up the oil in the gearbox, transfer box and overdrive. Gearbox was fine, just a little dribbled out when i removed the fill plug; the transfer box was nearly empty and the overdrive was overflowing (well! Dip stick had oil nearly all the way to the top). Now...

    My 109

looks really good. Nice job. Inspires me to get the roller out and paint my patchwork quilt of a series.

    pulling to the left

Looooong time coming, but it was finally resolved. there were two issues at play here - first was a hub seal leak that allowed oil onto the brake pad, and second was incorrect adjustment (read none wotsoever). Adjusters were seized into position, so chap who 'renewed' it all for me didn't...

    Trailer made from 88" tub

Thanks for the advice chaps. just got similiar comments on another forum. Have to agree. I think i'll either try and sell or swap for something suitable - a sankey was suggested as an investment on any money made from selling the tub. Anyone in ireland got a good condition sankey they want...

    Trailer made from 88" tub

that sounds just like what i have in mind, alright - only problem is lack of back half of chassis - think i may need to rig something up(frame) to sit the tub on. Would really like to have springs and shocks on it, rather than just rigidly mounted axle, but my skills (severely lacking in...

    Trailer made from 88" tub

Afternoon all, I've just been given all the body work from an old series 111 that the guys use here at work as a teaching aid. The Tub is in immaculate condition, but i have no need for it. However, i do need a trailer. I can get my hands on an axle and other bits and pieces easily...

    Series Landrover Appreciation Thread

Got my 88" series 3 diesel over a year ago, after a few years of yearning. The ususal - thought it was all ok till i got it home and all the problems started. A year later and a complete engine and running gear rebuild, and its hauling timber, beehives, kayaks, and anything else that i can use...

Have a look at this people....

usually a bit conservative bout these things and think a series should be a series - no mods or modern luxeries - thats the joy of a series. But this thing is awesome looking. Think they have done an amazing job on it - would love one - just to look at. Reminds of an old blower bentley...

    Kerosene oil

I take yer point, RedHand - fair enough. Have to go with a combo of diesel and vegoil. The thought of a massive fine and possibly having 'The Heap' scrapped after all the work done and money spent doesn't bear thinking about. I'll find someone who's looking for some heating oil and flog...

    Kerosene oil

Cheers for the idea Odenne. Might just use it for when i battering round the woods and fields outback collecting firewood, and just fill with diesel when using it on the road.

    pulling to the left

Hi Dave, everythng was renewed - including flexi-pipe, cylinders and shoes. The chassis is galvanised, straight and in perfect condition (part of the reason i bought the thing in the first place - guy who sold it to me had it sitting for a year and wanted the space). I'm going to ask one of...

    Kerosene oil

Hmm! Thought so - ah well, looks like i'll have to find another use for the stuff. Cheers for the quick replies.

    Kerosene oil

Got about 500 lts of this stuff at home and a chap told me last night that i could run it in my 2.25 diesel - suggested a mix of 40/60 kerosene to diesel. Now, what i'm wondering is, is he pulling my leg, or can i use this stuff up, spend less time at the garage fuel pump and save myself a few...

    pulling to the left

When i first got my series 3 it pulled to the left when breaking - the harder the breaking the more severe the swing to the left. Its now had new cylinders, shoes, etc - in fact a complete overhaul - and all seems to be rosy with regards lack of leaks and fluid levels, but it still pulls...

    anti-freeze

Thanks Spyderman, I was asking because i heard someone mention the other day that certain antifreezes can damage the engine or some-such, and that some are better than others. A mechanically minded friend of mine told me last night that it shoud be ethylene glycol based - also gave me a few...

    running in

cheers Dave, was just going to pop along at 30-40ish and only shoving it into over-drive when theres a decent level straight. It tends to labour a bit if theres even a slight incline and the foot isn't flat to the floor. Its interesting to be paying particular attention to the engine note...
