Morning all.

Am in a state of shock - had new springs fitted to the landrover less than 1,000 miles ago and it now appears that they are shagged - to such an extent that chap in workshop won't let me drive it away.

Landrover was crabbing the last couple of weeks, so asked one of the mechanics here at work to have a nosey at it. It turns out that the axle had shifted on the front springs (bolts not tightened properly) and that the springs had also bent out of shape with result that steering-rod was catching on the spring.

Now, i paid a gentleman a small fortune to do a lot of work on the landrover a while back (he's an alledged genius on these things - which i now question, especially as all the gaskets he changed also need to be redone) and he assured me all had been sorted. Now turns out that, to compound the shoddy job he did, he used Sh*tpart springs.

So, my question, after my little vent, is: What are the best springs to use ? I want leaf springs, not parabolics. Who is the best supplier and what sort of prices am i looking at.

To make matters worse, i payed waaaaaay too much for these springs as it turns out. Am extremely p*ssed off, but getting calmer now.

Thanks for reading - all assistance greatly appreciated.

I have done about 8000 miles in the springs which I got from paddocks and i am assuming they are Britpart - no problems whatsoever. If they have failed after 1000 miles there is something seriously dodgy going on - i.e what you said above with the bolts.

Just as a note - he could well have tightened the bolts properley - I have found with U Bolts on leaf springs that after I have fully assembled and tightened I always do a few miles driving and then re-check tension - as often a few of the bolts become slack (or rather, the U-Bolts stretch or the leafs compress a bit more perhaps?) - so I would not be suprised if this will be the arguement he will use if you take it back to him! But then I suppose he should have told you to check the bolts after a few miles - I know I would after my experiences with leafs.

I've got ****part rear springs from Craddocks and the driver's side has gone flat. I complained but they just don't want to know.

where is the best place for them then? my LTWT is a little leany and Im unsure if it will pass MOT (about 1" between bumpstop and axle) so i may need to think about springs.

I was told by my MoTer that as long as the springs aren't broken, it shouldn't fail, just an advisery.
He was right when he recommended I change them as soon as possible, A vast improvement.
