Just another thought, I watched a video earlier of a d2 stuck in snow; the guy didn't seem to be giving the tc chance to do its thing, kept backing off as soon as the wheels spun. You may also find the tc isn't working, it usually disables itself if the fault lights on, as does abs. Or maybe...

Walked away :( mileage was on the high side (198k), no tax (so a problem to get it home) and made a squeel / grinding sound when I pressed the clutch and got worse when I pushed the gear lever towards 1st. If the tax was there, I'd probably have chanced it but all things considered.....

How likely is a 2001 (Y) to still have the diff lock bits in the transfer box? I've read "early ones" still had it but didn't have the lever etc to engage it?
