    Drop arm ball joint

Really :o I hit it a bit with a hammer earlier (out of pure frustration) but it made no difference. Didn't think to hit it against an anvil of sorts. Will try that first thing tomorrow.

    Drop arm ball joint

It did cross my mind to make the slot longer but figured I'd be destroying the ball joint thread if I tried. Looking at paddocks and craddock, a track rod bar on its own is about £20. Does anyone know if RST in Colchester would stock that? It might be worth it not to have to struggle with this...

    Drop arm ball joint

Thanks for the replies. So, have packed up for the night a bit defeated. All in all, I'm trying to change both track rod ball joints and the drop arm one. As I said in my first post, I've disassembled the drop arm one and am now left with (now not sure if its the upper or lower) but the...

    Drop arm ball joint

Under my landy as I type this. I'm trying to replace the drop arm ball joint due to an mot fail. I can't get the lower Socket from the housing. Any advice hot to get it out? Or any reason I can't leave it in and just not use the new one?

    Rear axle breather

Standard is just tucked up in the wheel arch or something with an upside-down U bend. But you can just cable tie it to the axle if you don't plan on wading. Personally I'd go with everyone else's suggestions and buy a wading kit to run it up to the snorkel. About £25 on ebay will give you all...

    Fitting safari snorkel

If memory serves (it was a few years ago I did mine) the part that fits to the wing has studs, so you just need some washers and matching nuts. The part that runs up the pillar should have a bracket and would be fixed with short screws. Just line it up and do pilot holes then screw into. Beware...

    Charging Problem

Well it still might be one of the battery cables, but could be that the battery itself is knackered. Can you disconnect the battery and test the voltage across the terminals after a drive, leave it disconnected and test again an hour later.

    Charging Problem

Where exactly was the AA guy checking when he said the battery was charging? Was he actually testing the voltage to the battery (I.e. with the passenger seat out and battery box lid off)? If not, it does sound like the others have suggested. If the alternator is kicking out 14 odd volts but the...

Do I need a new head unit?

Could be a software problem. Disconnecting the battery for a while and reconnecting it might work.

    Front prop sheering, why??

I was just thinking that. Seems really strange that you've had three props shear. Can you post some pics of them?

    Calipers?

The only advice I have is to replace the double hex bolts when you put them back on. Mine where a bitch to get off as they were so rusty and rounded off. New ones off eBay with a dab of loctite, jobs a gooden.

    Advice needed

I think with mine, some I could get to the back but if I remember rightly I drilled out a couple. Mines a 1994 so might be different though I guess.

Mixed feelings you get owning a land rover

Couple of weeks or so. Did a similar thing a couple of years ago rummaging through the scrap steel at the stockholders. Mine looked the same. The nail fell off after a while, you have to be really careful not to knock or catch it when it's only just hanging on, cos that's painful. The new...

    None start

I'd agree with the above. Alternator or (at a push) the connections from it. Sounds like the alternator though. It should be up in the 14 volts whilst running.

    Best road tyre?

I have BFG all terrains in that size. Expensive but bloody good Id say. Also, it's a nice size, quite large for ground clearance, road surface contact and good looks, but also not too big that the turnin circle becomes a problem.

    Cubby vs inverter

Where to mount depends on a few things I'd say. If youre wading, you want it quite high up, just in case you stall and flood the vehicle. You also want to be able to get to the socket clearly with any type or shape of plug, so tucked away where you can't get to it probably won't be too...

Any one rcomend a good ariel and where to put it

Yeah, like I say, the crackle is more a thing for older radios. But your symptoms (not having fm signal at all) wreak of crap signal from the anntenna. Picking up engine noise is usually solved by fitting a suppressor on the power supply.

Any one rcomend a good ariel and where to put it

Yeah, very true. It does work to some extent, just not ideal. In older radios you'd experience more and more crackle the further away from ideal conditions you get, but modern systems have all manner of clever **** going on there to make the best of a bad signal, hence why a coat hanger works in...
