Off the shelf long extended brake hoses

Me and the old man are lifting his Disco next week. We've got a 2" body lift, 2" suspension lift, and +4" shocks. So I'm looking at about 8" extended brake hoses to allow enough slack when fully articulated. Trouble is, I can't find anyone that does 8" extended brake hoses, they're only 2" the...

Discovery transfer box on a 90

I don't know where you read that, but it's not true. Discovery TXB ratios are longer than standard Defender ratios. This is partly due to ratio correction because of tire sizes that the vehicles run as standard, and the nature of the life the type of vehicle was perceived to have when sold new...

First Land Rover Defender 90 TD5 Purchase

There's nothing wrong with the gearboxes. But TD5s do come with dual mass flywheels as standard, which can be costly to replace when they go wrong, so check for vibration at idle and any thudding noises from the bell housing when taking up drive. Other common TD5 faults are missfiring due to a...

    Run away diesel

The old 12J and 19J engines used to be renowned for this, but this was due to higher than normal crankcase pressure forcing oil up the breather into the induction system. Fortunately the cyclone breather design on the 200TDi remedied this, so it's just turbo failure that causes runaways on...

    Help. rear diff oil seal

When you put the new seal in, did it have any chance of getting contaminated from previous off road grime for example? Mud and grit will destroy an oil seal in no miles atall.

Totaly not for landyzone but can any one help plz read

As above really, probably the idle control valve, but also clean the breather pipes, throttle body, and idle air bypass pipe with brake cleaner. (Make sure it's all dry before you put it back and crank it though, brake cleaner is very flammable and your engine will run violently off it!) The...

Self drive trailer hire? Need recommendations please

Just as long as it's not a 2.5N/A diesel. I tried towing an Omega on a brian james trailer with my old ex army 110. It wasn't cool, and it wasn't comfortable for the 4 hours it took me either.

    Fooked air filter

Fortunately it seems like he got away with it, there's traces of mulch in the induction pipework but the turbo shaft has minimal play. There is a horrid rattling/knocking noise that goes away at higher RPM, but I'm confident that's a shagged timing belt tensioner, since it's also been off-road...

Now thats more like it - Another new defender

That thing is a monster, I absolutely LOVE it. JLR need to offer than man a job on as much as he wants, right now  Having said that, a design that looks right, and a design that meets criteria for safety etc can be two separate things. And it won't have a ladder chassis either, LR have...

Pre 1960 MOT free from Nov

Indeed showmans vehicles (HGVs atleast) are MOT exempt, and they're just a bunch of pikeys with fairground rides. *may have sort of worked on the fair when I was 16/17*

Pre 1960 MOT free from Nov

I think I'm right in saying that in Belgium (and maybe other euro countries too) this has been around for some time. And newer vehicles than 1960s too.

    Defender engine names by year

300TDI remained as a special order for a few years after the TD5 was introduced IIRC. this is a TD5 engine: And this is a 300TDi: Pretty easy to tell apart. If it says TD5 on the plastic engine cover, it will almost certainly be a TD5. I can't see how anyone could or would want to fit a...
