    Why do you have a V8 ?

Quite so, but large petrol engines are much, much cheaper to buy than diesels. Together with the lower petrol price, and as long as you don't have to use the V8 every day or on long trips, it takes many years before the diesel "breaks-even". "Fun for free" in those years I say.

Looking at the picture must be an annual trip. :p

V8 cut out now wont start, Started once and missfired cut out again

Ask the seller. If he can't tell, don't buy. There are plenty of suppliers who can.

V8 cut out now wont start, Started once and missfired cut out again

Looking at the history, think Mr. Noisy's diagnose sounds the best option to start trouble shooting. Never jump to conclusions, it is too costly.

    Why do you have a V8 ?

    Best present ever ! :p

    Why do you have a V8 ?

Reliability ? Knock on the wood, but I have had no probs for the last 16 years. I think the low rpm's are taking care of this engine.

    Why do you have a V8 ?

Hi guys, I finally have some time to to get on this (fantastic!) forum again. Inspired by some other posts, I would like to know why you guys have a V8, and not a diesel. Money is not everything. I bought mine in '97 and love every moment I drive it. For me it is the lovely sound it...

    Days tinkering...What to do!

I normally go rust huntin on days like that. And make sure to put a bit of grease on every nut you take off, cause you'll have to undo them again one day.

Have you ever seen one of these

Got the indicators with the rear lights, not on the bumper.

    V8 Driving me mad!

As far as I know the whole point of a V8 is high torque at low rpm. Pulling power, not speed. That the engine is able to do 6000 rpm does not mean it needs to be done.

    V8 Driving me mad!

    That's it !

    V8 Driving me mad!

Difficult to say from a distance. Goto start trouble shooting and go over all systems one-by-one to see if they work properly. But I guess you know that.

    V8 Driving me mad!

Sounds like not enough gas pressure/supply (or air) at higher rpm. But that's as much as I dare say. I never bothered with lpg cause it takes space, extra trouble and does not give the power you need. Then I hardly use more than 3000 rpm while driving my V8i. Above that it starts to guzzle...

    Disco 1 V8 v Disco 1 V8i

Yep, 1:8 in ltr/km. Measured on motorway on several 600 mi trips @ 2800 rpm / 70 mph. Don't move you foot though ! :p

    Disco 1 V8 v Disco 1 V8i

True actually. I calculated that cost difference between this and a diesel would be £40 per 1000k's (625 miles). That is money but still not worth buying another car. Leave that you won't have the fun of driving a V8.

    Disco 1 V8 v Disco 1 V8i

If that's the only difference, why did LR bother with the injection ? But more seriously, how is that V8 on mileage, hp or torque, maintenance, reliability etc. My V8i does 1:8 (ltr:km) = 23 mpg, either empty or puling full load and has been very reliable over the 16 years I had it. It...

Ah, good, thanks. And what about the V8 compared to the V8i ?

    Disco 1 V8 v Disco 1 V8i

Hi guys, Spring starts again and that is MY time to work on the Disco. I need some parts like a door latch, off road tyres, bumper. Now, I got a late '91 V8i. Looking at a '90 V8 that is for sale. Thinking to use 1 for parts. Are the parts (besides engine) the same ? Can I use...
