Whats the 1 wheel test, jack a back wheel up and see if it spins?

I have a 55 plate 3 door deisel manual 80k miles, on loan today with view to purchase, I've had a quick look over already, body condition etc. Are there any simple checks I can do on the driveway (VCU?) to check the drivetrain etc?

Anything I should be aware of? Looking at manual 3 door TD4s, sub 75k miles, price wise £4-£5k about right?

Funny first thing I did was take the plates off!

First thoughts are just to get it back on the road, I've had it running but the seals have gone in brakes and clutch, the exhaust has gone, so I'll just work though the mechanicals and see how it goes.

Safely that is? I want to put a tow bar on the back of my 109, not for towing on the road more for recovery off road. Is a cross member stong enough on its own with just 2 bolts to take the load or should I have a drop plate with supports going back to the chassis? (I don't really want to lose...

I regulary do 600 miles in a weekend in mine, a TD5 is quite happy cruising about 70.
