Bought some CRC MAF Sensor cleaner and just used most of the can on the two wires. Didn't touch them, then left it to dry. This is before I cleaned it - but duly and dusty. This is after I'd cleaned it - nice and shiny (still a bit damp from the cleaning spray) :) Mine's a Siemens MAF...

I am considering a MAP clean. But, I'll wait until I do the EGR. Because, if it's a mess in there, I don't want to knock lumps of crud into the intake ports. However, if it is really caked up in there, I'm concerned that removing the manifold will lead to crud falling to the intake ports...

No, it's not really major news. But, I removed and cleaned the MAF on my 166k, 2001 TD5 today after testing with the MAF disconnected and although it didn't look dirty it has made one hell of a difference. Has to be on of the simplest maintenance tasks ever and you get instant gratification...

Yeh, they don't look cheap...I'm going to seal the electrical contacts with a bag and tape first, then very carefully spray the cleaner on the sensor and pray to the gods of luck and mercy that I don't knacker it.

Whilst there seems plenty of witch-craft and voodoo options out there, all the rest seem incredibly dirty, like soaking in diesel, then engine cleaner, then scrubbing and jet washing. Can't say I fancy all those pollutants all over my drive - or me. So, I'm looking at a local vapour blasting...

Great shots. Out of interest, what sort of miles have you got on it? I'm expecting to fit the kit this week on an '01 with 166k on the clock. I've just picked up some brake cleaner to clean the MAP whilst I'm at it. But, the manifold will have to wait a bit longer, unless it looks heavily...

Incidentally, a 30 day warranted used one was only £30 including postage from a breaker. I'll be making sure that's packed with grease before I install.

Well, I finally worked out that the spindle was seized. I took the motor out and could turn it manually. But, the screw gear would not turn the main gear at all. I haven't been able to work out how to remove the spindle or the gears to clean them either, so rather than frustrate myself any more...

I presume this is the bit to soak, or should I remove the torx screws to the motor itself and have a poke around in there with WD40 and re-grease? I've only got Castrol HT grease, I assume that will be ok.

Muchas gracias mi amigo! I took the plastic snap on cover off and it just looks like crumbled chocolate in there - looks like rust or is that likely to be the grease? I don't have plus-gas, but I should have shares in WD40...I could bathe the car in the amount I have...will that work well...
