Thats a brilliant answer sypher, `cos it validates my, (rather lazy decision), to just replace them rather than test them first. As long as nothing else bad can be indicated by the oil being present, then a result. Thank you.

Put new glow plugs in today, to go with the new Bosch 95aH/800CCA battery. Bring on the snow/cold now:) When removing nos. 2+3, they had wet smooth, (not gritty), oil on them. 1+3 were dry as a bone. Why would that be?

Might be worth asking JSF G-man, if we get stuck. We`ll try jamesmartins suggestion first. Cheers all.

Can a battery thats gone flat in this cold weather be brought back to life?My Halfords 700CCA died on me ( no idea how old it is), and is now on an Optimate trickle charger for the w/e. Can it be made strong enough to do its job again consistently or as it went flat will it just do it again?

I`ve carried on with this thread so folk can see the history behind the post. Whilst deliberating re glow plugs, it began starting easily again with no dramas. So I rubbed my hands with glee, thinking `ha, saved a few bob there!` Unfortunately, 2 days ago same symptoms. but battery didnt last...

While I`m here a quick question............ The screws that hold the floor pan down, on both sides, are rusted as f**k. I`ve bought new stainless ones to replace them and will have to grind the old ones off. Do the new ones screw straight through floor pan like self tappers or is there a clip...

Possibly. Although today it started first time, with preheat, no problems. A bit warmer today tho`. Anyway, thanx all for the info. A few little jobs to check, to go on the growing list of other little jobs to check :)

What are they called, lerk? Mind you access may be an issue as its the bottom bolt under the bend of the thermostat housing. Socket seemed to be the only way in :confused:
