Oily glow plugs

Put new glow plugs in today, to go with the new Bosch 95aH/800CCA battery. Bring on the snow/cold now

When removing nos. 2+3, they had wet smooth, (not gritty), oil on them.
1+3 were dry as a bone.
Why would that be?

Coz 2+3 where not working .

Thats a brilliant answer sypher, `cos it validates my, (rather lazy decision), to just replace them rather than test them first.
As long as nothing else bad can be indicated by the oil being present, then a result. Thank you.
