Yep i would check the intercooler hoses, the main one on the right hand side of the engine i had was split, which caused it to misfire and black smoke. I replaced it and its been fine ever since! :)

Be carefull with lifting a freelander - as its a independant suspension, your drive shafts will be at an incredible angle which in turn will knacker your drive train ird vcu etc.

After a lil bit of advice really, i was thinking about purchasing some 2" suspension strut lifts, is this wise?? I heard it could have major repurcussions on your drive train, is this true?

Hi, i've got a 2001 TD4 and half way through fitting my snorkel that i made, i just bought i snorkel top off ebay with drain pipes and many angled bends from b&q, rubbed down - sprayed. The TD4 air intake is in your o/sf wing, flexi hose through that, use a hole saw for the wing.:)

I have a 2001 td4 and was thinking about making my own snorkel, the air intake runs up the inside of the o/s/f wing!

Gavdon i have the same problem with my td4 freelander, its fine when idle/stationary but when its moving and the vehicle gets hotter the rattling intensifies. Will let you know if i find out what it is. I've had a good play around the exhaust/heat shields diff mounts, vcu adn props and uj's...

Thanks for your input guys, I did bang the exhaust with no real sound coming from it, but was thinking with the warm exhaust gases being pushed through the exhaust, if something was loose it could cause the sound. I will have a look at the turbo brackets and that area. It seems more pronouce...

Wondering whether anyone could help. I have a tinkering/rattling noise under the freelander whilst driving along. It sounds as though something is tapping away against something, such as a heat sheild, that kind of sound. It doesn't always occur and its not a wheel speed. It doesn't affect...
