After reading other posts on here the middle two sensors are not ticking the outer two You can hear a feint sound from when You place your ear on them.

:) If that included off road use 18 months for £24 isn't bad :)

As I have just replaced 4 glow plugs on my TD4 2006 freelander I can confirm Yes the glow plug light does come on but the duration is related to the temperature it only comes on for seconds when ignition is turned on then thats it starts straight away.

I too have a td4 full of troubles and its easy to look on the black side all the time worst case etc etc but me been ever the optimist it does sound more of an engine mounting problem also check the cv joints for excess wear bit different sound but still a knock on take up of drive and cornering.
