Lovely, many thanks for pointing me in the right direction, that's done the trick - airlock gone and all good now. :)

Series 3 Cooling System - a couple of questions.......

Causing me a bit of grief this one..........wonder if i can pick some brains please? I've done the following: 1. New water pump, new gaskets, all new hoses, new thermostat (82°) and new radiator. 2. Fan controller fitted to top hose for electric fan. 3. Previous owner had bypassed the...

Series 3 Cooling System - a couple of questions.......

Many thanks for your reply Blackburn, I've already ordered new pipes, clips and water pump - so it's getting changed whatever. Have ordered both thermostats too, but wasn't too sure which to fit. Also I neglected to mention that the heater is not working. No blower fan fitted and the heater...

Series 3 Cooling System - a couple of questions.......

Hello all, Having worked through many items trying to tidy things up, its time to turn my attention to the cooling system. Its a 1973 88inch but with a later 2.3 petrol engine (code 11H), the cooling system needs an overhaul with hoses that have been bodged with joiners and some are now...

How should you clean up axle bearings and components?

Soak in de-greaser does the trick. I use the 'No Nonsense' stuff from Screwfix - does a pretty good job too depending on what mixing ratio is used. I think its reasonably priced for 5 litres - 8 or 9 quid I think.

Series 3 S3 Brake Fluid Reservoir Cap Replacement?

I've just bought a replacement reservoir lid from ebay, search for item 291559212630 - fits perfectly. Paid a fiver for it.

Wheel Cylinders - Lucas/TRW or Delphi?

Pretty much so, renewed all bearings, seals and halfshaft UJ's too, although the swivels were in good nick and I've reused them. Only took pics whilst stripping down as reference I'm afraid. Seems Paddocks have them at a cheaper price than I was expecting, so will probably go with these as...

Wheel Cylinders - Lucas/TRW or Delphi?

Hi All, After spending most of my Xmas break overhauling the front axle I thought , whilst I was at it, that I'd fit new cylinders, shoes and drums (11 inch) that the previous owner passed to me when I purchased the vehicle. They were of course all in the blue BP boxes, and against my better...

    Series 3 Diff Pinion Seal

    Serviceable Swivel?

Just spent an hour or so fettling the few pits with a fine diamond file and then with progressively finer micromesh. Cant see there being anything to damage the wiper seal.

    Serviceable Swivel?

Seems the general consensus is to fit gaiters then. I will get a new set ordered. Thanks all.:)

    Serviceable Swivel?

Hahahaha - I've got a special little funnel that'll be perfect for getting it all back in! In two minds as whether to actually refit gaiters, given the amount of muck that was in them.

    Serviceable Swivel?

Thanks for the help everyone, will give the existing ones a whirl and save a few quid!

    Serviceable Swivel?

Afternoon All, I'm in the process of stripping the front axle down as a bit of a Christmas project now I've got a few weeks off work. Being pretty new to Landrovers, just wondering if more experienced forum members can advise if the swivel I removed today is serviceable, or should I just get...

    Front propshaft question......

Thanks R-J, that will do me - appreciate your reply.

    Front propshaft question......

Removed the propshafts to replace leaking output shaft seals in the transfer box today. The front prop is absolutely knackered, with a load of play in the sliding joint and one of the UJ's is near collapse - so new one on order. Is it advisable to still drive without the front prop fitted as...

Series 3 Play on splines. Change the half shaft?

+1 I've just done the rears on mine today after a strip down to renew leaking hub seals, half shafts in pretty good nick, but flange splines were more like pointy teeth than splines. Its taken a bit of transmission slop out though.

    Rear hub question

Thanks both............seems sensible the more I think about it.

    Rear hub question

Hi All This maybe a bit of a daft question, but the felt seal fitted to the rear hub carrier on a 1973 88inch has one face which is plastic. Which way round does it fit (as shown by red arrow in photo) plastic towards the hub/bearing or towards the washer/castellated nut? Whats left of the...
