Hi All,

After spending most of my Xmas break overhauling the front axle I thought , whilst I was at it, that I'd fit new cylinders, shoes and drums (11 inch) that the previous owner passed to me when I purchased the vehicle.
They were of course all in the blue BP boxes, and against my better judgement, I've fitted them.
I've now got one leaking and one weeping cylinder, so I'll be buying replacements later this week - as the title says, should it be Lucas/TRW or Delphi any recommendations?
May as well get some branded shoes as well if anyone can suggest which brand would be best.
On the bright side, at least I didn't pay good money for them!

Thanks

(S3 1973 88 inch)

Was it a full derust and paint jobby and new swivels? Any pics
Shame about the blue box ones, if they didn’t leak now it would be a few months down the line, I like TRW\ Lucas and have also used Delphi which lasted, I wonder if they last longer if the fluid is changed more often
For the shoes I pay £25-£30 mintex or similar

Fitted Delphi on front and BP on rear, 4 years on Delphi failed and the BP ones are still working. Its a complete lottery. The BP ones were ally and I didn't like the quality so I bought Delphi (iron) for the front, but the seals failed after 4 years. Nearly caused an accident as they were filling the brakes with fluid and while I knew something was not right I wasn't sure what, then I went though a flood and the water mixed with the brake fluid and formed an emmulsion, no brakes.

Whichever ones you choose you would do well to heed Land Rovers own advice on brake maintenance and change the seals every 3 years or 36 thousand miles.

Pretty much so, renewed all bearings, seals and halfshaft UJ's too, although the swivels were in good nick and I've reused them. Only took pics whilst stripping down as reference I'm afraid.

lucas/TRW imo

Seems Paddocks have them at a cheaper price than I was expecting, so will probably go with these as they are described as OEM.

I'll be doing that for sure.

Yes and pack with red grease under the seals. Pity you're in Cheshire, I have 2 tins of the stuff and I reckon 1/4 of a tin would last lifetime!

Embarrassingly, I've never come across red grease before, have just had a read up about its use and have ordered a 500g tin, which by the sounds of it is more than enough!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions, will get everything ordered this week.
I've also noticed some of the brake lines are not in great condition, so I think I'll get a roll of tubing and renew whilst I'm in brake mode.
