Do P38's even have head gaskets?

I haven't taken it anywhere yet, was buying. The car itself tho apparently is only used about town at weekends. The secondary problem of water useage was a big concern that suggests maybe its more than condensating.

Do P38's even have head gaskets?

No LPG. its a 4.6 HSE. Dipstick oil looked fine. There was alot of condensation on the oil filler cap. This was one I had a bankers draft in my pocket to pay for and buy... so walked away. Every other time i've mentioned it on this forum tho, people say run away from. And what I know about...

Do P38's even have head gaskets?

Look under the oil filler cap of a P38 that's just been started, LOTS of water droplets and creamy white stuff slightly visible. Oil dip stick looked fine, used but clean oil no sign whatsoever of white creamy contaminated oil so doesn't tally up to me. Only thing I can think is that its...

Whats the best Diy Lpg kit for a p38????

fair enough Gav, I guess it comes down to how handy and experienced you are. I'd never dream of ****ing around with LPG gas...

    Which engine, 4.6 or 4.0???????

I think the decision should be based more on the condition of the car/engine than the engine size. I just backed out of what was becoming an increasingly more problematic buy, car was Cat D, and had a few other niggles. But... the 4.6 is the one I want, so if I don't get then I'll always be...

Whats the best Diy Lpg kit for a p38????

Connecting the cooker hose to your RR... Seriously tho Is DIY LPG a good idea? Did you see the news a few months back where a poorly fitted LPG system filled the cockpit of a car, engulfing it and the driver in flames. Not good! Get it done properly or not at all I reckon. You need...

So... I backed out of buying the P38

My 99/V Frontera 3.2 v6 was writted off as Cat D 2 years ago. It was very clean, lower than average miles. It was valued at £3850 on the insurance pay out at the time. The damage was all near side, wing, both doors, sills, and wheels. Bsically a BMW pulled out a side road, hit me and span...

So... I backed out of buying the P38

:(... on top of the things I'd already highlighted, and it wasn't the best value for money, though it was clean looking, it turns out its a Cat D when I ran the HPI check. Worth their money those checks for sure. So there's no way I'm going to pay top money for a Cat D write off. I've given...

Block test booked to check for HG failure

As Im understanding that, thats just the emmisions probe in the engine bay, with the coolent cap off? Correct? to see if it picks up emmisions suggesting a HG failure/leak...??

Breakdown's suk! Hope you get it sorted...

Block test booked to check for HG failure

And if its just a chemical test, is it not something that can be done by ourselves? Im guessing you place some chemical in the coolant tank and look for the result??

Block test booked to check for HG failure

So I need to see if they can do the HC test then for sure...

    Risk factor 1-10

I'd prefer to pay £900 more for a runner  But yeah that sounds a v good deal, I guess it was working ok for you for a while? One Im after is a late 99 too. No LPG tho.

Block test booked to check for HG failure

The garage said the HC test wont point to HG failure!? They said thats just for emmissions... They'll do it no prob tho, but whats the point?

Block test booked to check for HG failure

So so so... this one I've been on here posting about, well, it's booked in for a Block Test to give an idea of the HG integrity. It will show if there is ANY oil/water contamination and give me a picture of the state of the HG. They said no point in doing a Hydrocarbon / emmissions test as it's...

    Risk factor 1-10

Thanks Gav, a balanced response and good advice. I'd never have touched a TVR and some other cars/bikes if I only went on poor reputation. I've got it booked in for a block test for HG failure 8.30am Sat morning before parting with any cash. A possible alternator problem is a minor concern...

    Risk factor 1-10

Ok, I’m going to try put some perspective and a little more accuracy on this, as it seems I’ve made this one sound like a right bag of nails… Under the oil cap, it was relatively thick with what I’d expect of a sound running car, nice dark / black oil/carbon deposits...
