You have a freelander 1 The turbo feeds into the EGR by way of a 'flexible' metal pipe, its flexibility is due to a similar action as a tumble dryer duct . This can crack and release fumes, but will sound a bit louder under use. If you have taken the EGR off you may well have cracked this...

You need to get out and test drive these mate, we all have our preferences for various reasons. Take them out and see what they are like for parking on roads/ supermarkets/ country roads etc. The FL2 is getting close in size to the Disco's now so its a personal choice
