Morning all! I’m having trouble with the locking actuators on my front doors - I replaced them myself yesterday after buying second hand replacements and all was fine - doors opened and closed no worries, and locked with the key fob. I broke the spindle that the key mechanism requires to manually lock and unlock.

Once I completed I drove home happy as Larry (apart from needing to visit a breakers yard), until I got home and couldn’t open the doors at all. The lock actuates, I can hear every handle is actuating so no linkages have come off but the door remains shut.

1. How do I open the door so I can have a look at the internals
2. Does anybody know what this might be? And how I might fix it?

Thank you!

Maybe whatever the handle operates has come off?
Mind you then you would be able to open from the inside I guess.
It seems a little odd that both front door catches would fail at the same time.

Everything is solid inside i believe, I can hear the linkages actuating on both sides and it worked before I left my friends house (where we fixed it). I think it’s some sort of mislock or superlock or something because all of the handles and the key fob work but the door still won’t open

This could suggest a missing or insecure cable clip. Little plastic bit which holds metal rod in place ?
I know the Disco 2 rear pads can be removed with door closed, any chance you can climb over and remove front from inside ?

Are you referencing the over-the-top clip for the exterior door handle? The linkage that is at the top right of the door if you look at it from the cab of the car?

It has been a while, but if memory serves me it is on the linkage by the latch.
A small plastic piece which grips the rod, allowing the rod to slide.
Hard to explain, but it basically transfers the movement, so as handle is pulled sideways the movement is forced upward.
Mine was green, but some can be white.
Does that make sense ?

Which latch are we discussing here, internal door latch, external door latch, or the “lock toggle” which is the small toggle you can use to manually lock the door from the inside. As far as I know, all clips seem attached and linked and I’ve manually pushed each actuator connection on the motor with my thumb but it just won’t open - I think it’s possibly an electrical problem rather than mechanical 😔

If you hear an activity in the latch while you give any command with the fob or dash switch the problem is definitely not electrical and you might have bought two "tired" actuators which gave up the gost at the same time, it can happen with used parts, if it's absolute silence in the latches on fob commands then it might be electrical

There is activity, the fob locks and unlocks all doors (based on the little knob that goes up and down). Is it a definite that the actuators have buggered up or is it more likely I’ve not fitted them correctly (such as not prepping the gear system to exactly where the previous actuators were sat)?

The latch at the actual lock. The movement from pulling the door handle is transferred into lateral movement.
The plastic clip I'm referring to joins two rods and allows movement through an angle.
Though it has to be said if both sides not working, the same mistake would have to have been made on each side, or of course the clips could be in place but damaged, as mine was.

Long shot, but haven't we had someone on previously who had similar problem with faulty used actuators ?
And finally, beyond me, but could that broken spindle lead to no operation at the mechanism ?
Both sides . 🤔

I think I know what you’re referencing. It’s very possible that I’ve incorrectly fitted the clip on both sides as I watched a YouTube video on how to do it as well as my own intuition. I doubt the spindle would affect anything as the locking and unlocking via FOB works absolutely fine, therefore the lock isn’t being restricted by said spindle. I will investigate further after work and look into working examples of the plastic catch scenario 😂
