As per the title really should the aircon fan on the front of the rads / condenser be running all the time even with the aircon and cabin fans etc totally turned off?

Cheers :)

In a word no - according to the manual it should never work in this country due to our weather.
If you are referring to the fan just behind the front grill in front of the condenser matrix the chances of it ever working are pretty slim. I had a leak in one of the a/c pipes and the guy who fixed it found that the fan was seized solid. After a bit of research I found the following in the Land Rover manual, I did however replace the fan with a working one.

'While the a/c system is on, operation of the electric cooling fan to assist refrigerant condenser operation, is determined by a combination of vehicle speed and external air temperature. When cooling fan operation is required, the ATC ECU outputs a cooling fan request to the ECM, which then energises the cooling fan relay. The cooling fan request is output if vehicle speed is 80km/h or less while the external air temperature is 28c or 82f or more. The request is cancelled and the cooling fan switched off if either the vehicle speed increased to 100km/h or the external air temp decreases to 25c or 77f'.

So you see no wonder the fan seizes through lack of use in this country, looks like your system is faulty somewhere along the line
I have a 51 plate TD5
Hope this helps

You will find the aircon condenser fan will run most of the time, this time of year. However, it should stop when you switch the air con off.

Have the fault memory cleared (even if no faults are shown!) on the Td5 ECU, and this should stop it from running all the time. ;) If this clears it, then it was a problem related to your engine coolant temp sensor seeing a high value, triggering the additional cooling from the air con electric fan.

Hi,

I have the same issue and I have taken my car to the dealership twice and they had no idea about this issue. I got them to hook it up to the system called T4 which apparently is LRs genuine diagnostic system for the TD5. However, I tried going through the menus but couldn't find any option to turn the fans off.

If anyone here is familiar with this system, can you please guide me going through what menus will lead me to an option to turn this forced assist off.
You help is much needed and would be really appreciated!!

I am from Pakistan and the TD5 Defender was never launched here but the dealer has some experience with TD5 Discos.

OMG... keep insisting maybe you can find even older threads to dig out...

What temperature is it in Pakistan currently?
