Anyone aware of a battery maintainer you can connect to your vehicle without the need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle. i.e. just connect straight up to maintain the battery, unclip when required and drive away

Yep loads, we have a C-tek and a thingy to plug in to the tow socket if we want.
But loads of slightly cheaper options available.

I thought you had to disconnect the pos lead (to protect the alternator) while charging a battery ?
I own a Noco genius 10a unit trickle charger / maintainer and its not specific in it's instructions

Nico should be good, check their website. Just remember to unplug before you drive off:p:)

I have an anderson plug on the front grill, and just plug into that to trickle charge the battery, never been an issue, do the same with the other three cars.
I have a cheapy 3.8A charger from lidl/aldi.

I also charge a few vehicles at work, and all we do is plug them in with everything still connected and let the charger do its job, the charger is a big unit.

I've heard that but I just connect it to the battery and not worry about it, any charger, not just a battery minder or trickle charger. I might be a bit more cautious if I had a modern rangie with half a ton of electronics. I've not caused any electrical damage yet. I thought alternators had diodes in them to prevent electricity flowing into them. If it was true that you had to disconnect the battery, you wouldn't be able to jump start one.

There is a discussion on another forum that questions whether 5A max is a better set up for the Range Rover if using it as an on vehicle maintainer.

Cheers

I use a 5A maintainer, would never disconnect battery. Its on a Merc that only gets used in summer, the battery maintains the alarm and immobiliser so its stays in circuit at all times. The series has a solar panel on the roof.

Pretty much any electronic battery charger can be connected and left that way permanently.
I've just bought a £15 off Amazon, as my previous expensive one failed in spectacular fashion, the moment I wanted to use it.

The Amazon one was used yesterday to keep the battery voltage up while I was programming the injectors to my ECU, and doing an running an update on the CJB too. Works perfectly, and for a bargain price too. :)
