Hi everyone,
This is my first post on this forum. The subject is related to the canbus system on my 2004 l322 vogue.
I've had a few problems, albeit temporary, with this system and thought it might be helpful to other members to pass on my experiences.
In a past life I have had extensive experience with these types of system.
The first thing I noticed was that when I had an abs sensor failure, I noticed that not only did the display show that the hill descent control system was inoperative (normal) but it also showed that the air suspension was inoperative. Didn't make sense but cleared when I replaced the sensor.
The second problem I encountered was after a flat battery.
All hell broke loose, firstly the starter was inoperative after I'd driven to somewhere and upon my return to the car. Then I was asked for a code. Code, I thought, what code? Coupled with this was the loss of the red colouring on the nav screen. I tried 0000 as the code which worked. Got the car started and drove home. During this drive the red colouring flickered on and off and the indicators stopped working. My next venture out began with the request for the code again. Got the car started and proceeded on my journey.
Indicators now sort of worked, right hand one was ok but left hand did not cancel and stayed on for about 20secs after they were switched off. This lasted for about 10 miles and then they went back to normal. Red still flickering. Upon my return home after a few hours rest, the only problem was the red flickering.
Checked the system this morning and it all seems normal, even the red has returned. So the moral of the story is that, if you have odd behaviour from your systems after a flat battery or odd faults that don't seem connected to the fault that you know you have, don't despair. It will almost certainly be the canbus throwing a wobbler but it will settle after a period of time or after repairing the known fault. This is common on canbus systems. They don't like it uppem (only older brits will understand that one)

The EAS will go out if the ABS is in fault as they share common data for correct vehicle operation....
