Hi I'm new on here, and I've got a 2007 range rover sport 2.7 tdv6, I've got an issue with the vehicle it just cut out one day when I was driving, the engine still turns over so isn't seized but won't start!
Whilst getting someone to crank the car I looked inside the oil filler cap and i can see the camshaft turning but when it is turning I can see what looks like the camshaft lifting!!

The car has full history and has had its cambelt done 18 months ago.

I'm a mechanic by trade but I wanted some info or if anyone has heard of the camshaft failing!? The car is back where I used to live 2.5 hours away from me so before I go back and start tearing it down I'd like some Input off you guys thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to LandyZone.
Sorry to hear of your problems. You have come to the right place really, but ..... if I may advise you?
Intro's are like this:
Hi I am [name] and I have a [Wonderful/Awful/Nightmare] Land Rover, it is a [ Series 1/2/3 Defender/Gaylander/Range Rover], here are some picture of it.
I will post my problem "help requests" in the forum section for that LR type, see ya laters!
The forum section you want for lots of sage advice and knowledge is this one: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/forum/range-rover.10/

I'm not the "forum police" or anything, but you need answers/help and "Intro's" is the wrong place to really get it. ;)

Hi Richard, great to have you on-board mate.
What the folks on here don't know about Landies isn't worth knowing, you have come to the right place.
Good luck in your fixing (sounds dire to me), I've only got an old P38a, not a nice new-fangled one but simpler seems better for me as I'm a klutz without spanner-hands and electronics drive me nuts.

Well that's what I'm hoping for you can't beat more help from other like minded people!!! I'm used to working on porsche's so the older range rovers aren't my specialty, I'm also after a discovery 2 as a daily car for myself! So hopefully will find one around on here!

Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for the 2.7 to fail in this way and it’s likely terminal from what I understand. Some people buy an S type Jag as an engine donor.

So are the valves likely to be damaged or do the cylinders have rocker arms?? I've got an s type sat here just incase!! I just really don't want have to swap engines

Honestly no idea, just seen enough horror stories to accept that a D3 TDV6 isn’t something I can afford to take a chance on. You’ll get more attention from those that actually know what they are talking about in the appropriate bit of the forum. Hope you get it sorted!
