SLS Suspension Controller kits available :-)

Hi Guys,

I've finally got my SLS controller kits ready to ship for those who are interested!

As a brief summary, this gives you a wired switch to let you control the height of the rear air suspension on the Disco2, by mimicing the signal from the Land Rover OEM suspension remote. (designed to make it easier to load things into the back or for hitching up a trailer). *it DOES NOT* let you adjust the ride height while on the move.

After reading this thread and the original sls thread, I arrived here by looking for a way to clone the remote fob, I thnk that this project is an excellent option.

The fact that the original fob is quoted at £120 is a rip off, the price seems in line with the main fob for replacement but programming at 80 quid, that is a definite rip off, it's a two minute job and not complicated, at least with hawkeye it's not. A diagnostic session round these parts is only £35 + vat at the local indie.

Now, the reason for my post is that I have a 4 channel cheapo remote from ebay, it cost circa £7.99 and came with one fob. I have had it a couple of years now and use it on my fuel burning heater. For that I use only one channel and so have 3 more spare.

I have been looking for a use for this and this mod may be the thing I need. I have the original sls fob so obviously aren't desperate for this but I do t want to lose/damage the original fob hence my wanting to clone it. The only thing here is how to wire this lot in so as to enable the original and the mod to work.

Here's my theory.

The cheapo remote has 4 channels, a,b,c,d, a is used to active the FBH as a parking heater on my car.

That leaves b,c and d, c and d are side by side on the remote so I would use those two for up and down respectively.

As I understand it, in basic logical terms, the original switch with the kit has 3 wires, a common and two to activate up and down. This is fine as regards the remote as it has momentary and latching options(I think, maybe need to double check or it blows this out of the water) question is how do I wire this in and keep the original fob also.

This may be of use for others who wish to install the remote and for around 7 or 8 quid it may even be an option for it to be supplied by yourself David?

Hmm,

It will be a bit tricky to have both working at once. The kit outputs the square wave signal, and if the BCU is doing it too, they'll get confused ;-)

What I would do if you don't need both operating *at once*, would be to have insulated spade connectors, allowing you to disconnect the kit and reconnect the BCU to the SLABS signal input.

The other part of your suggestion sounds fine - the 'common' pin on the kit's switch is ground, so as long as you can ground the UP or DOWN signals via your board's relays, it will send the car up or down

i doubt there would be any reason to use both, it is probably a little silly of me to want to fiddle where i dont have to but its like an adiction to me!!

if someone doesnt have a fob already and has no resont to keep the wire connected to the bcu then it wont be an issue i spose.

i might shelve this one for now or at least until my fob breaks/goes missing.

Picked up my V8 Disco 2 last night

Just come across this thread and was wondering how far this lowers the rear down?

I have a rather large and Lazy malamute who can hardly be bothered to get up off the floor let alone jump in the back!

If the back comes down a bit it might encourage him to help my back out a bit!

Also, are they still available?

Hi,

The kit lowers the rear as much as the standard LR suspension remote - it doesn't lower right down onto the bump stops but I recall it being around 6 inches or so - I can't say I've measured it exactly.

I know I'm a bit late for the party but I've just collected a D2 with air suspension and need to be able to make it sit down so mt dog can get in after she has had a day out on the fields. I am unable to help her as I have a spinal injury and being from good Yorkshire stock I can't bring myself to throw large amounts of money at my local Land Rover stealership.
Are these still available or has someone got a redundant one sat on a shelf. I am quite capable of constructing such an item given a list of parts and a schematic (I found out which end of the soldering iron not to hold by building my own ham radio gear). Hopefully someone can help.
