Replacing windscreen washer jet Defender...tip

Hi
I just had to sort out the drivers side windscreen washer on the defender,
I tried blowing, sucking prodding and poking. But still nothing came out, so I looked at the hole after the ashtray came out, but couldn't see a problem. So I bit the bullet and decided to remove the dash top, wow easy or what.
After removing the dash I could see why the washer wasn't working, the pipe had been caught in the front vent linkage nipping it like a pair of surgical forceps.
So a new length of pipe and they are as good as new, all done in hour and a half including the compulsory tea break to warm the fingers up in these sub zero temperatures.

Glad I searched 'freds and found this. Fecking ball ache in this weather driving on motorways in N W with all crap thrown up over windscreen and was looking at a solution for improving jet coverage. Got a second twin jet on order and going to convert to 2 x 2 system as described.

With the hot water system already in place it should make a real difference but one question.

Do you put the Y piece halfway between the two new nozzle postions to ensure a reasonably balanced flow between them or doesn't it make a difference?

Did the conversion last Friday. Y piece splitter between the new jets and now get a lovely clean screen full of hot water! Brilliant. Took top off dash to do it and only problem was having a spanner short enough to tighten up the backing nuts on each jet. Eventually resorted to cutting down an old 13 mm spanner. Other advice would be to fit hoses to nozzles before threading through bulkhead and then cut to length as required from inside the cabin.

Yes. See photo. Don't know why LR didn't do this as standard. Washer system now the bogs dollocks.

Tried the ashtray method and just couldn’t get the nut on as the central bracket thing is in the way and I have big hands. I gave up and popped the top of the dash off which made it so much easier, all done in around 30 mins and les frustrating.
