Freelander 1 Coolant Expansion Tank - is pipe pressurised?

I seem to have a coolant leak on me 2001 TD4 and the top little hard'ish black plastic pipe that feeds hot coolant into the Expansion Tank seems to be a leak source. Is this pipe 'special' any way, pressure tolerant ?

A few drops of dried coolant around the pressure screw-cap of th Expansion tank, repair or replace ?

Appreciate any feedback as ever folks.

Hi. The whole system is pressurised, that's why the water doesn't boil at 100c. The black pipe back to the 'expansion' vessel is sometimes called the breather pipe and allows air to vent from the radiator. It should not be leaking. If it is, then it needs to be replaced or repaired.
However, if your system is over pressurised, that can mean some serious problems. However, on a diesel engine, you would know about a blown head gasket in other ways. Good luck and keep us informed.

The part I need is PCH000160 and this little 75cm pipe will cost me around £40. ouch.

Anyone suggest a generic replacement, silicone pipe or whatever that would take the pressure?

It's just plastic pipe. So there's no reason why you can't fit a replacement made out of a flexible material, as long as it takes the heat and temperature needed.
