There are at least 2 versions of the SRS ECU, the later one has all the sensors internally, earlier versions have front crash sensors on the crush boxes in front of the chassis legs.

Thanks, im trying to get to it so i can check the s/no
They don't often go wrong although they can log a fault with low battery voltage which can be cleared with diagnostics. If you have had a shunt that has fired an airbag, then replacement is necessary unless you are able to replace the internal sensors.

Thanks getting a fault on the dash but the nanocom says it cannot connect to it, changed the rotary coupler as i had a good one. But no change. Nanocom say it could be a bricked ecu so that was my next try but need to get to it first

If you have an srs fault have you checked the yellow connectors under the seats as these are prone to throwing up the dash lights give them a clean with electrical contact cleaner.

Disconnected the seat airbags on mine and made some doofers to fool the SRS ECU into thinking they are still there.

On a 1998 model there are no yellow connectors under the seats. Side airbags and seat belt pretensioners only came in in 1999. ECU is under rear of centre consul you will have to remove consul to get at it.
