How to identify 15p engine

It’s a job to explain where, but near the centrifugal oil filter and just below the head they’ll be a flat bit and the number will be on it. Sometimes quite difficult to see.

What year is the vehicle? Pre-2002 TD5’s will normally be 10P, but none of them are immune to cracked heads

Tried that but as you say very difficult to see. Certainly I cannot distinguish any numerals at all. It is a 2000 defender but unable to say with any certainty is it is the original engine.

Ahh, thanks James. Did vaguely remember something about that. Yes I do have the 3 pipes on the FPS with one over the inlet to the front of the cylinder head. So although it is a 2000 defender it has a 15p engine.

seems like it,its not unusual to have had an engine change

Does it have an egr cooler? If yes its probably a 15p does it have a metal pipe going around back of engine bolted to gearbox if it doesn't have that then its a 15p
