i have been having a few problems with my 2006 freelander td4 as I was driving it would surge very slightly but when I eased of it would be ok so I thought it was the low pressure fuel pump and I changed it tonight but now it would not start at all so on inspection it was not getting fuel to the pump so I think the tank has crap in it and blocking the pickup pipe
So here is my question is there an inspection hatch I can look into easily or do I have to remove the tank
To get the crap out
Thanks in advance Ralph

Fold the rear seats forward and pull up the boot carpet. You’ll find a plate covering the sender unit.

It's more likely to be the filter, or the new pump isn't working correctly. That's if it's the lift pump/ filter at all. Have you checked the basics like the rail sensor for corrosion?

Have you checked for fuel flow at the low pressure supply point at the high pressure pump?
Can you hear the lift pump running?
The pump is running but the fuel is not being lifted by it so I checked the sender unit took of the 2 hose clips and blew into them one there was no blockage it just seems as if the pump is not priming itself.
so would the rail senor have anything to do with this?
If not how can I prime the system
Thanks

I'm assuming the pump is fitted the correct way round and all quick connectors are fully inserted?

Sometimes it helps to suck the fuel through the low pressure system from the high pressure fuel feed pipe.

The rail sensor has nothing to do with low pressure fuel supply, but can be responsible for the engine cutting out. ;)

Magic I’ll try that your an absolute star thanks

I once took the pump and send unit out of my first freelander because the pump in the tank was playing up and I could not believe what was in there , the later td4s just have the sender unit in but it is worth checking as it still has the pickup tubes and there is a small plastic filter on the bottom , when you take it out be sure to take of the rubber seal and put it back onto the tank first not like me trying to get it all in at one go.
