Max revs when stationary is usually restricted to 3000 rpm, plus the engine isn't under load.

Hi guys new to this group , I have a freelander on a 55 plate and on my way home this morning it will not Rev any higher than 3000 rpm and have slight smoke from exhaust , going up hill was a joke no power at all also when power loss happens the engine management light comes on then goes off when you release the acc pedal. Any ideas thanks

welcome to the site your are posting in the wrong place for your first post, , also it is best to start a new post specific to your problem,
however before you get bushwacked, your problem is pointing to the fuel pump,

Check your intercooler/turbo hoses for holes, especially the O/S where it rests on the inlet manifold bracket.

if you are getting engine management light on it could be the pump, not pumping enough through, or a blocked fuel filter, if you change the pump if it is that then change the filter as well, on you car it is under the drivers side rear wheel arch, hope this helps

Similar symptoms. It was the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.
Sorry to dig up an old post, I'm a brand new member and recent land rover owner... just noticed massive drop in power and smoke from exhaust.
Checked the intercooler hoses and sure enough a big tear has appeared. I was just hoping someone could send a link to a popular auction site with what to buy to replace all the hoses that need updating....

Mate, nothing bar the split hose needs replacing. Its a 30 second job and the hose is under £20 from memory.
Juts get one from a LR dealer and fit it. In the dealer's car park like I did is always a larf.

Hey guys, seen a lot of posts about black smoke being as a result of a split intercooler hose and I believe I have found the split in one on right had side of the main engine block. Found the hoses on eBay from DPH sport and am planning on ordering them soon. The issue I have is that its not something I have done before so would love some pictures or a video on how to do it correctly! Any advice and tips would be massively appreciates!
Also are there any decent temporary fixes for it that i can try in the mean time?

Right hand side looking from the front, yes.
L shaped thing. Its simply two circlips to undo and she comes off easy. 2 minute job, five to clean the oil off your hands afterwards. Just needs one screwdriver.
Symptoms are dense smoke low power, a turbo whistle and in the final stages engine warning light and intermittent 'limp mode' cutting in at high throttle settings
After replacement the old girl will still smoke badly for a few miles until all the oil has been burnt up.
I wouldn't bother with ebay. I drove to a land rover dealer who had one in stock and did it in their car park £9 only IIRC.
The hose that went on me, is the one top right here. Could fit your fingers through the split

I think my split is in the bottom right hand hose that is sort of S shaped. It feels oily under neither but can't tell 100% if theres a split and don't really want to prod it too much incase I do even more damage. Also how safe it to drive? Am I damaging anything by driving it?

Duct tape will seal low pressure air hoses if they are not oily
You won't damage the engine with anything except ingestion of bits of shattered turbo if that's gone by driving with an air leak, and if it is a turbo hose its under pressure so wont suck grit in.
This is what the three turbo hoses look like

I’m pretty sure it’s the middle one, thats runs from the turbo to the intercooler, brook wells do the standard part for £9 which I think I’ll get and see how it goes, if It works I’ll upgrade all pipes to silicone ones at a later date but if it’s doesnt I’ll have to look into the turbo and other bits! Sound like a good idea?

It's unusual for that hose to split, but that doesn't mean it can't split. There's no point in changing the hose twice. Either replace tham all with silicone, or replace them with standard hoses as they fail.

Makes complete sense, Just didn’t want to spend all the money on the silicone set to end up not being the issue and having to spend more money on a new remedy!It's unusual for that hose to split, but that doesn't mean it can't split.
