Series 3 Clutch Slave cylinder gasket

Probably a very simple question....which will probably result in a very simple answer????

After getting Gerty back from the garage found a small gasket laid on top of the crossmember adjacent to the clutch slave cylinder, so guessing that when they took it apart it got put somewhere convenient and then got forgot to get put back in?

Whilst cannot imagine that Land Rover would have included a gasket that wasn't required, how much of an issue is this as I can't imagine that there is actually any fluid passing between the casing of the slave cylinder and the bell housing anyway???

I can't actually tell if there is a new gasket in there, replaced when they couldn't find the old one, or whether it's been missed out completely - don't really want to be faffing around taking the slave off to replace it if not necessary???

Series 3 has a steel spacer between the slave cylinder and the bellhousing.

Mine's not got one and it's fine. Can't recall seeing one in the manual but I've heard people talk of a thin spacer / shim

FRC 2402 is the part number

I suppose it makes my clutch biting point closer to the end of the pedal travel instead of further down?

Thanks for the feedback..... yup know the part number from the parts manual, and even have the gasket as it was left on the cross member, but just wanted to check how important it was to have it in place....on the one hand I cannot see that there are any fluids that would need to be sealed in at that joint so thinking it's not important....but on the other hand, I cannot understand why they would have included something that wasn't necessary???? - will keep an eye on it and see what happens

Just replaced both master cylinder and slave cylinder. On mine a gasket was fitted at the master cylinder end. Hope it doesn't matter as it was a bitch refitting the lower bolt.

It is not a gasket it is a steel spacer.

.......That's makes sense to me, but when I looked up the part number (591988) in the parts catalogue it is described as "Backing Plate Sealing Gasket" - Hence the question?
