front wipers not working slow or fast

good morning all completely new to the forum I have purchased a 1998 p38 and have an issue with the front wipers only working intermittent on all settings slow and fast do not work I have changed the stalk the RL-8 and used a sync mate that came with it so pretty stuck now hoping someone may know a solution many many thanks

All the SyncMate does is resync the BeCM to the Engine ECU when they loses communication with eachother.

Odd that it works on intermittant and not on constant.

The fact it works proves there is power getting to the motor.

The Wipers are controlled through the BeCM and I can only surmise that with a new Stalk, the wiring to the BeCM to tell it which mode to use is bust.

As a P38 owner you should have the RAVE manuals (a Download link can be found in Wammers Compressor Guide in the How To section) and this will have the electrical schematics in and also the Stalk switch logic.

Using a Digital Meter, check the connections from the Stalk to the BeCM...

The intermittant signal is getting from the BeCM to the Wiper Control Relays (Relays 1 & 8) so that proves the motor and BeCM out put is working....now you need to check the BeCM input signal from the Stalk!

Don't know never played with it, but there is a wiper option on the BECM programming that enables or disables wiper speed functions. Don't know if it actually switches wipers off or not. But maybe worth a look if you have someone with diagnostics. Nanocom or similar.

Really? never heard of that, but is a defo possibility.....

If its intermitant on all settings you have intermitant and its delay switch slow and fast I would check wire connections to wiper motor for corrosion .

Or maybe relays 1 and 8.

I have a P38 1996 for four years now, last week before Christmas, only, wash works and full on works but no
intermittent. Changed stalk, no difference, checked relays and fuses all ok, now perplexed! anyone any suggestions
need to go to France mid winter.......help please.

That is a strange one. I'd look at the connectors behind the kick panel in the drivers footwell.

No connections for wipers there, they go direct to BECM. If it's ok on full but no delay try relay 8 in engine fuse box.

Can you smell burning in the fuse box?

don't know if this helps but mine stopped working on intermittent, I replaced the stalk and all was well.
They have now stopped again, but if I wiggle the speed change toggle side to side numerous times I can get them to work now and again. I suspect another stalk is needed on mine.
