Can anyone answer my question ASAP?!!

My dads just bought a 53 plate Freelander 1 With 140k on the clock we've just done a full service on it all the filters you can think off and checked the brakes which looked ok looks like it's had a new set of pads not long ago and the disks are getting to about 50% worn.

Anyway he's use it for work today and on his way home he could smell the brakes getting really hot and when he's checked, the N/S/F wheel was scorching hot!

I'm here now with the caliper stripped down and there dosernt seem to be a problem with anything the caliper came off fine it had cooled down a bit but still hot to hold onto the sliders which the caliper bolts on move fine! The pads came out ok as I said there like New and the caliper piston has pushed back ok!!

Can someone give me an answer for what could be the probem also its not pulling over!

Wheel bearing?

Sometimes they do just stick, is the wheel binding at all when you've put it back together, does it rotate roughly?

The new Pads bit may be a bit of a clue.
I assume you haven`t taken the piston out of the caliper, when you say you have stripped the caliper.
Rust may have formed on the piston causing it to stick open when the brakes are applied.(Piston back further in the caliper with the new pads)
Its only about £30.00 for new pistons,guide pins and all seals of Ebay if this is the problem.
Its unlikely to be a wheel bearing.
To give off that much heat |I think you would be hearing not to mention feeling it through the steering.

Faulty flexi.?

Faulty flexy is a possibility,
I have never had one fail in that way though.
The odd seized caliper piston yes,but only on rear brakes.

Yep I've not taken the piston out I've just pushed it back which it went back fine there is no noise from the wheel bearing and the wheel rotates fine also I've put it back together and spun the wheel and had someone press and release the brake pedal a good few times and it releases ok when I took the caliper off I gave it s good clean up there was quite abit of dust but no rust!

He's going to use it today for work and see how it goes if it dose it again we will be fitting a new flexi on Thursday!!

I would put new discs on it as the piston may be coming a bit to far out and getting stuck with all the gunge on them.

I don't think it's the disks and the piston was only pushed out a couple of mill as the pads are almost new but thanks anyway!
