Changing back box on exhaust.

Hi all

Did a quick search so hopefully I'm not duplicating a question already asked. Have a new back box for my exhaust on the way. I have a 2005 2.0 diesel TD4. Any hints/tips/guide for getting it on? Hubby works nights and would like to just get on with it if at all possible if it's straightforward and save him a job - and the inevitable earache I'll get.

Have most tools knocking around in the garage, but is there anything additional I am likely to need?
Don't have a Haynes manual yet, but it's on my shopping list.

Thank you. Going to be pretty darn chuffed with meself if I can do it without the man taking over!

Get urself an exhaust clamp. Mine was rotten and the 10mm nut was rounded off with in minutes of me showing it the socket set. Broke out the hacksaw and sawed the little bugger off. Hit with a chisel and hammer and it cracked off. Un hooked the exhaust and twisted and pulled at the same time. Slapped new one on and clamped it up with a new clamp. Done.

As above, done mine few weeks ago, have replacement clamp, rubbers and some sealant available before you start. I had to hacksaw my old clamp off too.

It's done, the new exhaust came with rubbers and a clamp. Needed help from himself to get old one off as old clamp/bolt really corroded. He got his grinder out to cut it off and between us managed to wiggle old box off. I managed to get the new one on while being heckled by the hubby and the stepson, no blows that we can hear. I'm happy

Nice Job!........Looks like an oval shaped one too......More ground clearance as opposed to the round tube ones like mine....

I only noticed that after I put the new one on, it's definitely neater than the old one which was a round tube one, and had bits hanging off it! Did snap a pic of the old one, but it didn't upload for some reason. We did notice that one of the support bars for the fuel tank is looking very rough/corroded so that's going to going on the list of jobs to do at some point. That and a tow bar.
