Hey guys,

My fuel pump is buzzing all the time when the vehicle is running, is that normal? It's not overly loud but it is constant. I put a new pump and filter in not so long ago and its something I have just noticed when I was around the back of the defender. I have read its normal to be buzzing all the time and also read its not, so if someone could be kind enough to set me stratight?

Thanks for all the help!

If you want yur landy to run you want the fuel pump to stay running.

Was the new fuel pump a genuine one or non genuine?

It was the cheapest one I could find on flea bay, no idea what brand it is. Probably only has 2k mls on it. So is it time to go get a decent one? The previous one whined and then it was dead, this one still sounds fine other then the buzzing. Thanks for the replies!

Did the same as you and went the ebay way and what a mistake to make. price was good but pump was crap same buzzing noise as yours. Got the proper one and sweet as a nut very little noise and no probs.

I replaced mine with a Bearmach pump. It's slightly more noisey than the original but not too bad.

How long did it last? I'm going to take it out and have a look, give it and the tank a clean and see what happens. If that doesn't help I might just bite the bullet and keep the cheap one for a spare, have a long drive coming up and don't want to get stuck because I was being cheap:rolleyes:
The Bearmach one looks the way to go 180 squids.

You can get a bearmach one for £105 on ebay. This is the one I bought.....

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

He seems to list one for a 90 and one for a 110 every week so you could try messaging him or just wait for another one to come up.

Ratty, is there any buzzing from the pump when the Defender is running? Cheers!

Yes. I could only just here the one that was on there beforehand but I can hear the new one much easier although I wouldn't say it's loud loud. I haven't actually gone anywhere since fitting the new injector washers so it may quieten right down after a drive. I'll update you once I've gone for a spin at the weekend.

That's a fair price for the Bearmach one, the buzzing I'm hearing isn't overly loud and I can only hear it when I'm at the back or stick my head up to the tank. My only worry is it's constant. I'll record it and stick it up. Only people with 200/300's round here so can't check theirs. If you could let me know I would greatly appreciate it! Great forum for advice yet again!

From what you are saying it sounds normal.

Sorry for dragging this up from the depths but heres something interesting, the pump has steadily been getting a little bit more noisy so I have been thinking I'll buy another for a spare for the eventuality. I serviced her there the other day and used a more expensive mahle fuel filter, there was only a cheapy there before and presto the pump is back sounding like the day I first put it in. Something to think about if you have a relatively new pump that is getting noisy.

mines really loud, you can hear it when the radio is on and people give me funny looks when i go to start it up, done the injector seals, you reckon its nakkered?
