Just reported a 7" crack to my insurance on my Sept 96 4.6 HSE (great as now I will have a heated screen that clears the whole screen). Problem is that the numptys at the windscreen centre haven't stopped calling and asking all manner of questions ie reg, VIN etc.

Is there a problem with screen changes around this model/year that I need to address with the repair people or are they just a bit dim.

Cheers

Make sure the elements in the new one all work - I've heard of quite a few new ones that don't work properly.

I'm waiting for mine to crack so I can have more than 2 elements working!

I know they're trying to be helpful, but sometimes these 'generalists' aren't aware of every tweak and change in spec for each and every model. If anyone else had issues with replacement screens for this model year that I should be aware of, I would be grateful for the nod.

I thought they only did two - heated and unheated.

Make sure they fit the surrounds properly too - I think the top one can be a bit awkward and gets noisy at speed if fitted incorrectly.

There is only two heated and non heated in green . only change i am aware of is the mirror boss , a push up to fit or the BMW twist to fit. make sure you get a new top trim and bottom one can be reused but end up bending

I have had two both times had major issues first only half the elements worked second was with the trim being put back in fact on the second one I wouldnt let them fit it until they came with a new top trim also the covers for the mirror fixing had to get them replaced

If you give VIN and Reg numbers they should arrive with correct, and working, heated screen. Find out when they are coming, run car up to temp, then put a load of damp/wet clothing/towells in the front footwells while they fit it..........when they say it's done try screen heater - you'll soon see if ALL clears!
