Thanks all, forgot to mention, only happens on overrun. Gone as soon as you put any power down. Also makes the same noise when you roll in neutral or in gear. It kind of progressively got worse over time

Some of you may remember my recent gearbox woes. We'll if not I recently fitted a new lt77 into my 200tdi. So, all has gone well for about 1000miles. Gave the gearbox and axels a service last week and changed all the oils. (Also found a small leak at the drain plug which is hopefully rectified...

The one in the pics is actually on a rover V8 chassis (not vw). Is running a 3.9 RR V8 with a 3 speed auto box. Have a look on retro rides for "slammed rover" for more info.

Well as suspected it was a dodgy earth. Funny thing is that when I reconnected the handbrake she started no bother. Is this safe? I'm not going to get an electric shock touching the seat box or anything? Have left it as is for now anyway so I could focus on getting everything running right...

I have the negative earth from the battery bolted to the back of the transfer box. This was how it was when I dismantled. Am I missing something else? Thanks for the help by the way.
