What the F is this noise ???

Some of you may remember my recent gearbox woes. We'll if not I recently fitted a new lt77 into my 200tdi. So, all has gone well for about 1000miles.

Gave the gearbox and axels a service last week and changed all the oils. (Also found a small leak at the drain plug which is hopefully rectified now.)

Anyway, after around 100 miles this progressively arrived.

Have had a look underneath (without taking anything to bits) and all seems to be in order. Double checked the oils and their all there.

So... What the f*@k is the noise!?!

Heh, mine had been making the same noise all weekend, kept checking underneath, not a problem, both props tight, slight (usual) oil leak! but all looked good,

On the way home (+500 miles weekend) and within 20 miles of home the rear prop dropped off, the rear bolts sheared .. we know they sheared 'cos the head and part shank of one stayed in the flange!

Sounds to me as if something is binding- maybe handbrake?

any different on power or over run or cruising

Thanks all, forgot to mention, only happens on overrun. Gone as soon as you put any power down. Also makes the same noise when you roll in neutral or in gear.

It kind of progressively got worse over time

Exactly how my prop went ...

Think I'll be checking the prop bolts tomorrow!
