Update.... The bolt holding the output shaft worked loose by about 20mm. This caused the speed sensor ring to move out of alignment, hence the turbine speed reading zero. So while the transfer case is off it creates an ideal opportunity to change the seals, redirect the aircon drain pipe, tidy...

Sorry for the late reply. I did the stall speed test on the TC, 2600 RPM so that seems OK. Nanocom reported no output from the turbine shaft. (wasn't a hawkeye). I get a 320 ohm reading from the speed sensor. Not sure what it should be, but it seems to be working.

Not sure, a Hawkeye I think. I'll find out. Took it to a land rover specialist...

Just something else you may want to be aware of... If you change your engine to something more powerful, make sure your drive members and side shafts are up to spec. Wayne

Oh, and while I at it, anyone know if there are any input drive and lay shafts (J suffix) lying around?? Can get them here in SA but way too expensive!

My guess is, the input drive shaft and possibly the lay shaft are the problem. Not too difficult to replace yourself - and while you are about it you may as well replace the bearings on those shafts. I came across the following - MAIN GEARBOX (R380) The ideal lubricant for the R380 Gearbox...

Yep, I agree or it could be a drive member - it's what attaches the half shaft to the wheel.

Well that's good news, not sure which pipe you're talking about - I'll have to pop the bonnet on mine and have a look! Sadly, mine is still off the road, I'm assembleing one gearbox out of two - not that easy even with a book! Cheers Wayne

Well, last nite I stripped two GB's down to the guts, I wasn't able to pull the collars off the output shaft - too damn tight, so I'll have to take them in somewhere for that to be done. After that I'll swap the stuffed Spigot and Lay shaft with the reasonable one and hope for the best.
