    Disco 2 Td5 auto P0722

Update.... The bolt holding the output shaft worked loose by about 20mm. This caused the speed sensor ring to move out of alignment, hence the turbine speed reading zero. So while the transfer case is off it creates an ideal opportunity to change the seals, redirect the aircon drain pipe, tidy...

    Disco 2 Td5 auto P0722

Sorry for the late reply. I did the stall speed test on the TC, 2600 RPM so that seems OK. Nanocom reported no output from the turbine shaft. (wasn't a hawkeye). I get a 320 ohm reading from the speed sensor. Not sure what it should be, but it seems to be working.

Not sure, a Hawkeye I think. I'll find out. Took it to a land rover specialist...

    Disco 2 Td5 auto P0722

2001 D2 ES... Guys, I know this issue has been discussed at length on many forums around the world... I have read quite a few of them. M&S flashing and limp mode. So, what know - no turbine speed measured sesulting in the stall speed monitor P0722 fault. TC is OK, did the test 2600rpm. XYZ...

Just after some advice on a 110 turbo

Just something else you may want to be aware of... If you change your engine to something more powerful, make sure your drive members and side shafts are up to spec. Wayne

    300tdi R380 Gearbox!

Oh, and while I at it, anyone know if there are any input drive and lay shafts (J suffix) lying around?? Can get them here in SA but way too expensive!

    300tdi R380 Gearbox!

My guess is, the input drive shaft and possibly the lay shaft are the problem. Not too difficult to replace yourself - and while you are about it you may as well replace the bearings on those shafts. I came across the following - MAIN GEARBOX (R380) The ideal lubricant for the R380 Gearbox...

    Gear/Transfer box help please

Yep, I agree or it could be a drive member - it's what attaches the half shaft to the wheel.

    My Engine is Possessed

Well that's good news, not sure which pipe you're talking about - I'll have to pop the bonnet on mine and have a look! Sadly, mine is still off the road, I'm assembleing one gearbox out of two - not that easy even with a book! Cheers Wayne

    My Engine is Possessed

Me, I'm Wayne from Zululand SA - don't know each other personally, but we both drive Landy's. I was wondering if Woods (Rich) got his Tdi going again - the one that was posessed (I believe you offered to perform an excorcisim -or perhaps last rites) Cheers Wayne

Hey, just wanted to know how your landy's doing!

    My Engine is Possessed

What esactly do u mean crank case thing? And did u say u had to do a complete engine overhall? This is looking very bad indeed. If your rings / pistons are worn then you will build pressure in the sump as a result of combustion. This pressure causes oil to be forced into areas where it...

    R380 gearbox

Well, last nite I stripped two GB's down to the guts, I wasn't able to pull the collars off the output shaft - too damn tight, so I'll have to take them in somewhere for that to be done. After that I'll swap the stuffed Spigot and Lay shaft with the reasonable one and hope for the best.

    My Engine is Possessed

The crank case thing happened to me, that's why I know... Must admit when it picked up and ran I was not looking at what was behind me but rather where I could safely leave the road! To get home all I did was disconnect the crank case breather pipe from the air intake to the turbo, then drove...

    My Engine is Possessed

Ok - perhaps it's picking up oil and crank case fumes which would cause it to rev uncontrolably (scary situation). This would happen if your cylinders / rings are worn. The easy way to check this is to remove your oil filler cap while it's ideling and feel if it's blowing - this would indicate...

    R380 gearbox

Hi All Been some time since I was last here! I would like to know how to strip down an R380 GB. The input and Lay shaft are completely stuffed and I would like to replace them myself. Ive managed to remove the selector assembly - but that's as far as I go. Can anyone help? Cheers Wayne

    Defender 300Tdi Overheating

Rather than take the thermostat out, cut the spring out of the stat. This ensures that you still get the benifit of an "open" thermostat whilst still retaining back pressure in the water jacket. This way you get cooling around your number 4 pot. This was a tip given to me by an old school...

    Defender 300Tdi Overheating

Something else you may want to check - if your TDi is blowing oil all over the place (I know Landy's don't leak oil, they only mark territory) you may be building excessive crankcase pressure and need to replace rings etc. This can cause overheating under load conditions... Seems you've...

The day-to-day consequences of landy ownership?

Hi dabac, you certainly have stirred up a whole bunch of emotions!! I'm new to the LR community - I've always been an Opel / Isuzu person, that is until I took on my '96 defender 110 300 TDi. She was a pickup that lived on a farm, had 300000+ Km (mostly hard farm work) on the clock, but was...
