hi guys,long time since I've been here....I've a 2003 td4 pre face lift....I've attached photos..got home last night to find no coolant in header tank...gad a quick look with torch and found the leak in photos..firstly the car didnt over heat and needle didnt rise above mid point at any...

doesnt go above norm ...but i still hear sloshing also.

ok heres the latest part..............head/gasket changed,new plugs,new leads,new stat(before 1st attempt), everything was flushed to check flows...all good...... its back together and running quite well but.......top rad hose is red hot,bottome one is cold....coolant in tank is not...

well work started today......the head is tested reclaim..........after taking the head off after a good flushing ...which tbh was spotless from all pipes.....the head reveiled.....water around the liners..so...surely they are sealing after all? will continue tomorrow...hopefully itll be...

all parts have arrived, the head is not recon but has been pressure tested and tested for flatness so all good,...did a flush of coolant system taday befoe ripping it all apart tomorrow(if the snow does one!)....all pipes i flushed were all clear tap water like what i was hoseing...

fed up chasing my tail with it trax, and after advice from garage and a couple of others ive decide to replace it...all parts ordered.busy weekend ahead i hope weather holds

thanks htr, i plan to do the rad flush too, can u tell me......i dont really want to run the car in its current state now untill i have it done so...if i drain the rad, block the bottome hosee part off put cleaner in(not sure what sort yet) and fill with water,leave over night...wouldd that...

well just a quick update ....i put hose on expansion tank to see if i got flow through rad outlet....not a drop.so the recon head will be ordered tomorrow, as i will have the engine apart and because of the current blocked head i was planning on flushing the whole cooling system starting at...

capacity of car is 4.5 litres....il get a 2 litre bottle that makes 4 litres so im half a litr short on for the 50 50 mix .

im near nuneaton so temp doesnt go too far in minus tbh lol where would i find that info out please mate?

ok thanks....is it a 50/50 mix when i get it? il be putting it in from empty system after head has been off again.
