Well I'm wondering how good the battery was to start with. Once fitted it wasn't driven due to the other problems I was trying to sort out first. I took it out the garage to replace the top water hose and service it but that's it, hasn't been driven for over 2 weeks.
I'm going to leave the...

Yes I waited for the red light on the sat nav to go out before disconnecting etc.
I should add that when I checked the drain figures, the red light I was talking about was the one between the front seats that shows the car is going to sleep.

I've just done a drain test and this is what I found:
Locking the car shows 4 amps which drops down over 30 seconds to 2.8 amps.
After around 10 minutes it's right down to 0.7 amps with the red light in car still on.
After around 20 minutes and with the red light in car off it's down to 0.2...

Thanks for that, interesting reading.
I will try and look over it this weekend, hopefully I can work out what's going on.

Final stage resistor has been mentioned but I didn't have any of the symptoms with erratic blower adjustments etc.
Headlamp wipers look ok.
Not sure about alternator.
Can't see any water leaks in the rear quarter.
After fitting the new Bosch S5 battery it was left for a week and started...

Guess what, I was woken up at 5am this morning with the alarm going off on the Range Rover. I couldn't unlock it with the remote so used the key in the door. Opened the drivers door and realised straight away no interior lights etc - flat battery AGAIN !
Just been outside to check the battery...

Checked it previously for that, can't see any signs of damp or corrosion.
Not sure about bad connection, have to check the connections next then.

I've managed to get hold of a replacement head unit in the hope it would cure my stuck volume issues but unfortunately I still have the same problem. The replacement is a known working unit.
So the radio works as it should but neither the volume knob on the unit or the steering wheel buttons...

Just to let you all know that I managed to replace the hose yesterday without removing the fan. It's a bit tricky to get at the hose on the alternator but it wasn't too hard to do. I had to remove the undertray to get to the lower hose connection.
The hardest part of it all was bleeding the air...

Oh don't say that, the fan is a nightmare to remove isn't it ??

I've just ordered a replacement radiator top hose for my 4.4 V8. Some people have said the viscous fan needs to be removed to change the hose as a part of it runs down the bottom of the rad.
Is this true or is it possible to replace the hose without removing the fan ?

Just about to order the engine oil for my 2003 4.4 V8 from Euro Car Parts and in the list of oils is Triple QX 5w40 Fully Synthetic for PD engines.
Is this oil correct for my Range Rover as it's for diesels ? It's half price on offer at £24.99 for 5 litres so will be good if it is the right stuff.
